Hello everyone, how have you been? I'm doing very well. As I am a grown up man now, I have had enough experience in life to understand that some questions do not have easy answers. I remember there was a news on the TV about an old railway worker. He had found an injured man beside the railway tracks. That old man knew him because that injured man had robbed passengers on those same trains. Even though the old man was feeling anger but he still decided to help him. Later, that old man was being questioned for helping a criminal and he replied, “I am helping a human being. I am not approving of what he did.”
This incident changed my perspective and now I think about prison health cares differently. It's obvious for people to get angry because criminals often commit terrible crimes yet they are being treated nicely. But the citizen themselves are not able to pay for the medical bills. After all, the tax we pay is going for the healthcare service at prison. But I think we should separate punishment from basic human needs. Also, in prison no one lives peacefully, it's not a place where they have gone for a vacation.
A person when they commits a crime they are meant be in a prison as punishment for the crime. It is not humanity if we deliberately allow someone to become sick or die because think they are a culprit. I don't think we should ignore it if they have any kind of severe illness.
But I don't support the idea of neglecting the needs of the citizens. I believe the system should be fair to everyone. Prisoners should receive necessary and decent healthcare, that doesn't mean to give other citizen any less opportunities. If the healthcare system is very poor for the ordinary citizen then the government should come forward to work harder and make sure poor citizens receive proper care.
Most prisoners did not commit big crimes so, one day they will be leaving the prison. If their health is completely deteriorate, then it means we are sending back an angry person back into society. The crime rate would increase and they would be professionally hiding next time.
Justice should be firm, but it should also have limits. We don't need to take away their basic needs, and I will call that inhumanity if we do. If government takes the responsibility of the ordinary citizens health care then there will be no problems. I don't think people will be complaining anymore, if they are also receiving the same kind of treatment. In Bangladesh people who go to prison they suffer a lot, even the food they are served is not edible. Imagine you have not done anything wrong but someone accused you wrongly, then you will be in the prison. After that you are being treated badly by your cellmates and on top of that you're also having foods that can't be consumed but you need to eat it to survive. So, innocent people will fall sick easily because they are not used to these kind of environments. In the end, they will need medical help because they have the rights. So, I think they should be able to take medical help at least.
