Throughout virtually all of human history, there were limits that seemed absolutely unquestionable: no one chose when to be born, who could have children, how to treat extremely complex diseases, or what would happen after death. These barriers were always considered part of the rules of nature itself, yet a new generation of technologies is beginning to challenge every one of them.


Artificial intelligence, bioengineering, and digital models of the human body are converging to transform biological processes into systems that can be simulated, analyzed, and even reprogrammed. Today, we will explore why some researchers believe we are entering an era in which natural biology will cease to be a destiny and instead become a technology. Perhaps one of the most profound changes is taking place at the very origin of life.


Human reproduction has always relied on a very specific set of cells naturally produced by the body. Researchers are now working on a technique known as *in vitro* gametogenesis—or simply IVG—which aims to produce eggs and sperm in the laboratory using ordinary body cells, such as skin or blood cells.


The process begins by reverting these cells to a pluripotent stem cell state—capable of transforming into virtually any tissue in the body—and then guiding them via chemical signals to develop into reproductive cells. If this technology reaches the expected level of maturity, it could open up entirely new possibilities for people facing infertility, expand reproductive options for diverse families, and even reduce reliance on donors for certain treatments.
