Greetings, Hivers.
In some of my previous posts I have touched on the subject of how old and worn out transportation in Cuba has become. In general, there is a vehicle fleet that has been on the streets for decades, with many vehicles being more than 50 years old.
It is not unusual to see vehicles with 1950s chassis, 1990s engines and modern electrical systems. True Frankensteins, kept alive through ingenuity, improvisation and necessity.
But despite the incredible resourcefulness of Cubans, the current situation of shortages has hit everyone, including vehicle owners. Finding good quality fuel has become almost impossible, and for many people, even when fuel is available, the price is prohibitive. Spare parts have also become increasingly scarce.
And all of this can be seen on the streets.

En otros posts he tocado el tema de lo envejecido que está el transporte en Cuba. En general, existe un parque automotor que lleva décadas circulando, con muchos vehículos que tienen más de 50 años.
No es raro ver por las calles vehículos con chasis de la década del 50, motores de los 90 y sistemas eléctricos actuales. Verdaderos Frankensteins, mantenidos con ingenio, improvisación y necesidad.
Pero a pesar del increíble ingenio del cubano, la situación actual de carencias ha golpeado a todos, también a los dueños de vehículos. Se ha vuelto casi imposible conseguir carburantes de calidad y, para muchos, cuando aparece, el precio resulta prohibitivo. Los recambios también son cada vez más escasos.
Y todo eso se nota en las calles.
