[Anime] JoJo Steel Ball Run - Zeppeli's Family Past

If you've been watching anime for a while, you've certainly come across the infamous filler episode at some point. This is an episode that, in the worst-case scenario, happens when the story is reaching a climax, like a big fight between the anime's protagonist and the villain of that arc, and at that very moment the villain's or hero's past is revealed.

Imagine going into the anime all excited because it's the middle of a fight scene, and suddenly you realize that a good part of the episode was telling a backstory? That was a bit of the feeling in episode 6 of Steel Ball Run.

In the last episode, we reached a point where the villain manages to create a bomb in mid-air, incapacitates one of the characters, Mountain Tim, seriously injures Gyro, and is ultimately defeated thanks to Johnny Joestar's strategies with his spin/stand ability combined with Gyro. The audience was waiting to see what would come next, and what we found was precisely a filler episode...

I'll be much appreaciated if you Votes, Reblogs or give any Tips. Thanks and have good reading! 🍀

JoJo Steel Ball Run - Zeppeli's Family Past

At the beginning of episode 6 of JoJo SBR, it seemed like the story would continue normally, with Gyro and Joestar finding the so-called "Zombie Horse," which I believe everyone thought was some kind of horse, but it was actually a type of thread that can heal injuries, and that's what Gyro used to heal his leg problems. It's not explained very well how it exists, nor is its origin simply thrown into the story and everyone accepts it.

The thing is, this part was short because the rest of the entire episode was just filler that told the story of Gyro's family, a good part of which had already been revealed: that he works for a country and that his father was an executioner...

The difference is that it showed that the Spin ability is something passed down through the family to alleviate the prisoner's suffering at the time of execution. Gyro had been training, and when he was about to replace his father in the role that has been passed down in the Zepelli family for 380 years, a case came up where he disagreed with the verdict.

It seems a bit contrived because to go against that decision without committing a crime, he would have to earn a war medal, and in the United States, racing is considered a type of competition similar to war. So he chooses to participate to save the life of someone he doesn't know, risking his own life. This is somewhat confusing since he had been accompanying his father for some time and until then had never had a case that raised this doubt.

Finally, it's worth mentioning that it's fortunate this episode seems to have revealed everything that needed to be remembered about Gyro's family's past and the reasons why he's participating in this race, and a little about why they're after him, something that's quite important for understanding the context. So, the next episodes should return to the standard steel ball run programming, which is horse racing and lots of action! At least at the end, a mystery about Joestar's hand appears...

Obrigado e boa leitura! 🍀

JoJo Steel Ball Run - Zeppeli's Family Past
