Carry miraba atónita a Anderson.
Carry miraba a Anderson.
«Anderson, ¿Te sientes bien?». Carry corría tras su compañero.
«Sí, solo que fue muy sorpresivo. Ven te llevo a casa».
Aquella voz sonaba conocida.
«Jaja... Mejor dígame, ¿Qué pasó con Jein?».
«¿Cómo sabes lo de Jein? ¡Responde!». Carry empezaba a temblar.
«Carry, Carry... Te busca a ti. Jaja».
Acepta tu destino. Jaja». El vagabundo se abalanzaba hacia Carry.
Carry empezaba a disparar temblorosamente.
«Jaja...».

The Halloween Mask
Chapter three
Carry woke up and opened her eyes. The landscape was plunged into darkness; the trees were crimson, there was a red moon, and the ground was covered in a sticky substance that was difficult to identify. Carry stood up bewildered, while the breeze had a faint metallic smell.
The detective pulled out her gun and started pointing it everywhere, at that moment snow started falling, but it was not white, it was orange, it was neither cold nor hot, it was like ash. Carry kept moving around that place. When suddenly she saw that shadow, which was lost among the trees.
Carry's eyes followed the shadow's footsteps attentively. In a moment, that shadow was lost, the detective was looking everywhere. The 38 caliber revolver followed the movement of the woman's arms. Carry kept walking slowly, her breathing was accelerating and her pulse was rising.
As she took the next step, the shadow appeared out of nowhere and pounced on Carry, who fell backwards to the ground. A struggle began between the two, Carry felt that it was her end when he saw that white mask approaching.
"Leave me, damn it!” Carry was moving violently.
And at the moment, an ominous laughter was heard circling the breeze, as the shadow lifted one of its clawed hands, and directed it to Carry's chest, who quickly took her weapon that had flown aside. The detective aimed erratically and opened fire. The shadow slumped to the side, as Carry trembled non-stop. Then she took a deep breath and dropped her weapon.
Then that sinister laughter was heard again surrounding that place. Carry quickly rejoined and picked up her gun pointing everywhere.
"Carry, Carry, you're already mine, you're already mine... Haha." The sinister voice sailed with an echo through that place.
"Where are you cursed?” Carry was starting to shoot everywhere with her shaking hands.
Suddenly, that sinister place blurred in front of Carry's eyes and darkness invaded her.
"Carry, Carry, wake up." Anderson was moving her profusely.
Carry opened her eyes and sat up, startled.
"What happened?”
"You left the police station to check on the old man and then I found you lying on the sidewalk."
Anderson helped the detective get up. "Shall I take you to a hospital?”
"No, no. Where's the old man?” Carry stared at Anderson in amazement.
Anderson denied having seen the old man. At that moment, the sound of the cell phone broke the silence.
"Detective Anderson, we found a new body in the park on October 31st." The officer sounded shocked.
"Let's go at once...” Anderson was cutting the call.
"What happened?” Carry looked expectantly at his companion.
"I'll tell you on the way. Let's go quickly."
After a few minutes, the detectives arrived at the park, where the officers had fenced off the entire area. An officer received them and led them to the body, which was covered with a white blanket.
"Have you identified the victim?" Carry was looking at the officer.
"Look with your own eyes." The officer discovered the face of the corpse.
Anderson's eyes wanted to pop out of their sockets.
"Jein?" Anderson was kneeling the body.
"She had the killer's mask on and was shot through the heart. This murder does not have the imprint of our mask killer." The officer was finishing reading his report. "This is all very weird."
"I can't believe it, after so long. What was he doing in this place?" Carry was looking at Anderson.
"I don't know, this is all very disconcerting. I think we should go get some rest, it's Halloween tomorrow and we'll know about our killer for sure." Anderson stood up and left the crime scene.
"Anderson, are you feeling all right?" Carry was running after her partner.
"Yes, only it was very surprising. Come, I'll take you home." Anderson was opening his car door.
During the journey to the house silence reigned, both were immersed in their thoughts. Upon arriving at Carry’s place, Anderson said goodbye, and the woman went into the apartment. The detective opened the door and saw a shadow sitting on the sofa, she quickly pulled out her revolver. "Put your hands up and don't do anything stupid."
"Calm down, Detective Carry, it's me." That voice sounded familiar.
"You're the old one. What are you doing here?" Carry kept pointing, as he turned on the lights.
"What a way to receive your visitors, Miss Carry." The tramp was showing his toothless smile.
"I'm sick of this. Tell me what it is you are looking for, before I take you prisoner." Carry was still pointing the revolver.
"Haha... Better tell me, what happened to Jein?"
"How do you know about Jein? Answer me!" Carry was starting to shake.
"Carry, Carry... Jein was the killer of the mask, but she was no longer useful to the demon. Now he's looking for another one. He's looking for you. Haha." The tramp was taking a sip from the bottle inside the paper bag. "Every Halloween, he chooses someone new, someone with new spiritual energy, to bring him souls to satisfy his hunger for sins."
"What are you talking about, old man?" Carry was slowly approaching the tramp.
"Dear Carry, all those people were bad. Jein was the collector of sinful souls for him. It was divine justice, as the religious might say. Haha..." The tramp was getting up erratically. "It's your turn now and you can't do anything. Accept your destiny. Haha..."
"Who are you?"
"I'm just a messenger." The tramp was approaching Carry.
"Don't come any closer or I'll shoot." Carry was holstering the revolver.
"Haha."
The tramp's eyes were shining with that orange glow.
"It's already midnight. Accept your destiny. Haha." The tramp was rushing towards Carry.
Carry was starting to shoot shakily. The vagrant disappeared, and the woman fell unconscious onto the carpeted floor. The clock struck three mournful tones marking twelve, Carry opened her eyes with that orange glow.
"Haha..."
