Jamie busted out the vinyl on Saturday night after a few wines - truly one of my favourite things in the world, when he starts spinning and flipping his old records. I swear there's songs I haven't heard before though he'll swear he has played them before. There's a lot of white label records too where you dont even know whats on them til you start playing. I wish I could remember what they were to play them here for @ablaze's #threetunetuesday.
When Jamie was buying vinyl and DJing it was early '90's, so all his vinyl is from then. Some is scratched and off centre and unplayable - he didn't treat his vinyl well back then. But there's a lot of epic tunes as well. I love this one - I swear he's never played it before!
Jah Wobble’s Becoming More Like God, from his 1994 album Take Me to God (though Jamie has got the 12' not the full album) is dreamy ambient dub I suppose - there's ethereal vocals (Norwegian singer Anneli Drecker) with Wobble’s trademark deep, hypnotic bass - kinda atmospheric electronic dance rhythm. It's floaty and best played loud to get lost in.
Sticking to the God theme, we listened yet again to this classic - Tori Amos 'God' - not the standard track but 'The Thinking Mix' - remixed by Carl Craig in that detroit techno deep house experimental electronic music that is on a lot of Jamie's vinyl. It's absolutely fucking STUNNING. When it kicks in around 2.27 you know you're in for a ride.
And let's complete #threetunetuesday with a bit of Orbital, because it fits with that theme of celestial female vocals and feeling uplifting and kinda haunting too.
