Sorry, Hive men. I know you empathise with men forced to DIY for their wives. Rest assured, he wanted the window.
First step was to remove the bricks, and the asbestos eaves. That was a few hours work, so he did have a rest after that, promise.
We were putting in a timber awning double glazed window because this kitchen was dark. We'd ordered it a month ago and it finally was ready, so there's no way I would allow any further delay.
Then it was cutting out the plaster - easy peasy, right? I really don't know what you Hive men are complaining about. I mean, he's smiling, isn't he? For the camera at least. You'll have to trust me he's happy (enough) behind the scenes. I promise I cooked him dinner and poured him wine.
Et voila, the view! The light! The trees! I mean, as soon as it was open, king parrots landed on the tree outside as it to prove putting a window in was an excellet idea.
It didn't take long to put the window in place, because we could take out the awning window so it was considerably lighter. By this time the house was full of fucking flies and the dog was going nuts trying to eat them all. We do have a flywire on this one (not on in the photo - we are currently oiling it).
We are so happy with the way it turned out. It's so nice to see all that greenery right across the whole living space. It'll look great when we finally tile it as well. It's just completed the space in our opinion. What do you think?
First thing I cooked in my 'new' kitchen? This incredibly puffy spring onion and nigella foccacia. And I'm midway cooking a red lentil and veggie lasagne. It's cold here today and raining. Two hours before wine o'clock.
