Should Hive fund HiveFest XI and ChainCulture this year? An honest go or no-go.

This is not a proposal. It is a real question to the community, and I am genuinely fine with either answer.

image.png

I have been head-deep in planning HiveFest XI and ChainCulture in Barcelona for September. Before I take it further, sign a venue and ask the DHF for anything, I want to put the honest picture in front of you and let you decide whether Hive should do this at all right now.

Let me start with the uncomfortable part

If you read igormuba's post about Hive just hitting 5 cents and the long thread under it, you already know the mood: a lot of people feel the DHF should fund almost nothing at these prices, especially anything without direct revenue. I have read it, I largely agree, and that is exactly why I am asking this openly instead of just filing a proposal.

Hive is around 5 cents. Any money the DHF puts into an event is real money leaving the shared pot. To be blunt about the scale: a roughly 45,000 HBD ask is, in HIVE terms at today's price, on the order of 900,000 HIVE of sell-side weight. That is not nothing, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.

I will work hard to bring in external and multi-chain sponsors to cover as much of the cost as possible, and to repay parts of it back to the DHF as those sponsors land. But I am not going to oversell that. Even in the best case, Hive would still be a sponsor of its own event, so some amount of HBD gets printed regardless, just a bigger or a smaller amount. So the question is not "free or not free." The question is whether this spend is worth it for Hive at this price, in this market.

If your answer is no, that is a completely valid answer, and honestly it gives me a quiet summer. I would rather hear a clear no now than push something the community does not want.

What I would actually be asking you to fund

HiveFest XI is the annual gathering, 17 to 20 September in Barcelona. The piece that needs real funding is ChainCulture on Friday 18 September: a free, open, one-day, two-track event, one track dedicated to Hive, the other a deliberate mix of other chains, AI, the maker scene, music and digital art.

The reason for the timing is the one genuinely strong card in this hand. The European Blockchain Convention runs in Barcelona the two days before, with 6,000+ attendees from 70+ countries. ChainCulture lands the day after it closes, so a city full of founders, builders and investors is already here, for free, with an open calendar. Last year's first ChainCulture, from a cold start and with no such tailwind, still had 350+ people actually check in at the venue.

The honest case, including its limits

I will not pretend this prints money for Hive. It does not, certainly not directly or measurably.

What it does do: it points our community outward instead of inward. For years HiveFest has mostly been us meeting us, a reunion. That is lovely, but it does not reach anyone new. ChainCulture keeps the reunion and turns it toward thousands of people who have never touched Hive. It gives fresh eyes on the chain, a funnel for developers, creators and makers, real content output, and frankly some morale at a low moment.

And here is the part I think is fair to admit out loud: past events have struggled to convert into actual business, partly because Hive does not have plug-and-play products to hand a partner (no off-the-shelf payment, backup, survey or data solutions). That is a real gap. I would rather name it than hide it. The maker and hackathon side of ChainCulture is, to me, exactly where we could start building toward those solutions, with new people, rather than only talking among ourselves.

What I would do to keep it responsible

If the community says go, I would: chase sponsors to cover as much as possible and repay matching parts to the DHF, keep catering fully sponsor-funded and outside the ask, reuse Hive gear we already have in Spain instead of buying new, and run the funding through a 3-of-9 multisig so the money is released in tranches against milestones, not handed to anyone up front. Everything will be accounted for openly, the real costs of producing an event of this size included.

I will only move forward if there is a genuine yes here. I am not interested in forcing this through.

So, the question

I would rather hear a straight yes or no than a lukewarm "do some light version." This is the full vision: a proper one-day festival on a great venue, making the most of the thousands of people already in Barcelona for the big European blockchain week happening in the conference halls outside the city in the days right before us.

I am not asking lightly. I travelled to Barcelona two weeks ago and scouted venues myself, I have first-right reservations sitting and waiting to be signed, and I go back in 10 days with meetings already lined up with that conference, alongside content and community visits. That was me being enthusiastic and going all in on this vision of a one-day festival on a great venue.

But if austerity is what it is, I will bend the knee, and for once have a laidback summer with the kids instead of stressing over organising this :)

So please, fellow Hivers, be blunt and tell me. At 5 cent Hive, knowing some HBD gets printed no matter how many sponsors I land, do you want Hive to back HiveFest XI and ChainCulture this year, full vision, yes or no? I embrace your honesty.

I didn't express my view on time, but let me put it here to coerce myself to be transparent with what I think and AM around the Hive community.

I would honestly say NO, and for the DHF proposal to be skipped this year and for us to try if running lean on it works or not, and for whatever fund needs to support another day, like ChainCulture, of which I found last year very very exciting for onboarding new users and businesses, to be postponed (unless you guys find another external way to finance it).

And my main reason for this is because I don't think doing it will bring back another 45,000 HBD in investors and such... not with the current bear market situation in combination of the accelerated printing from DHF funds picture.

And I think this could also create a dual impact negative situation... as in, ChainCulture could be seen directly responsible for further helping dilude Hive price and sending the wrong image by happening at this time with DHF funds, combined with the factor that we strive to explain how transparent Hive community is... this would be not helping with the point of onboarding people into a community where the main attraction from most of the users coming from external crypto markets is, free MONEY! - Yes, there are other things many people care more about, like the feeless system and the HBD peg, and so on and on (you should know I know which valuable ones are there), but mostly it's people making a post and getting crypto for it. Maybe not the majority in value (where most of the business people come from), but for sure the majority in humans that will want to become active on Hive.

Maybe I am wrong, and this year in Barcelona, there could be a big investor that completely sees Hive and will make a big comeback, but my though behind that, is That investor is already deemed to come to Hive anyhow, and would not need to come via ChainCulture necessarily (no disrespect for what they do, which mega appreciated and I met very nice people through it, and would attend another event again). And I think that in that case, the long-term relationship with ChainCulture will be the more efficient factor that will eventually bring that user/investor.

Either way, if we try to run lean at this market moment and it does not work, we don't lose much in my view. And that signals the right next direction towards what to do next around the community, uniting more direction.

But coming back to why I think it would not outweight the DHF pressure, in my view most external people would not understand why the Hive price is downtrending, and by the time they find out that the Event itself is helping even more with the downtrend, that learning could just make up an argument for them to give up on Hive and potentially ChainCulture, which may be seen as a "grab for money" or exposure at no care for what it causes.

So what do we do? Nothing? Obviously not, and I think HiveFest should always happen, given this is supported by its participants and not from a DHF proposal (to my knowledge). Maybe some other external funding is involved too or donations, but mostly by its participants, anyhow. It should be open in my view and anyone should be able to organise it or help with it (and this for me was always the mood I enjoyed). We are just spoiled that a very big mate called @roelandp is repeatedly helping with all of them all the time.

So, DHF proposal to sponsor stuff on HiveFest, I am against it at the moment... due to the image it causes to Hive and to ChainCulture (or any other for that matter) as a partner that we want to protect and work long term with. At the same time its a great moment (and cheap) to test how we can adapt to these situations.

I certainly will not give up on Hive because ChainCulture does not happen in a particular year, or even HiveFest (even if both would be missed). I think if we attend to show externally that we have value as how we work in a community, we show way more value that would attract investors... vs something that just runs without much thinking about potential consequences.

  • @nuthman(74)· 73d

I think that Hive should only fund Hive Fest if Hive Fest somehow brings revenue to the chain.

  • @gtg(76)· 73d

Half of this thread debates paying for our yearly reunion (HiveFest) from the DHF. That was never the ask. The piece that needs funding - the post says it plainly - is ChainCulture, the free outreach day. HiveFest runs on tickets and sponsors. Mine is the Ithildin one, and yes, that name is - as some of you can easily guess - partly my fault.

I created the #0 Return Proposal, the mechanism that sets the funding threshold for the DHF, so I don't say this lightly. The European Blockchain Convention brings thousands of builders and investors to Barcelona, and ChainCulture opens the next day, free. This is probably the most effective marketing outreach we can have this year. And platform-wide marketing is one of only two things I accept DHF money for. The other is core development.

ChainCulture happened once. Cold start, no big conference next to it, and it still brought outside partners and more outside visitors than the HiveFest days. You cannot say "it never works" about a thing that worked the one time we tried it.

Events are not my thing. @roelandp delivered ten editions on three continents, through a fork and a pandemic. On events, his track record beats opinions - mine included.

If Roeland says it's a good idea I trust his judgement.

  • @fermionico(81)· 74d

I’m sorry to resort to a cliché, but: “Hive isn’t just another blockchain”… it’s that simple.

It’s real people building a community for the future.

And as human beings, we’re subject to the ups and downs of the economy. And what do the experts always recommend?

“Tighten your belt when conditions aren’t right.” It’s that simple.

ChainCulture must and has to happen, but with external funding.

My opinion, in short, is no.

Tightening our belts is the right course of action.

  • @curatorcat.pal(67)· 76d

    I would say no.

Having a "rah-rah party" seems a little absurd as we don't really have all that much to celebrate, and there's not a whole lot of evidence that HiveFest draws a lot of external attention anymore... if it ever really did.

Which isn't to suggest that we should kiss off "community spirit and connecting," but perhaps go more in a direction where there is still an event (or eventS) but is the "old school" style of of conferences where everything has to be self-funded... from attendance fees to sponsors to merch and beyond.

I've organized free-standing workshops, mini-events and been part of managing larger events for 30+ years, and that $hit all has had to be run as a for profit proposition, or at least as a break-even proposition. Give people discounts for "early bird registration" and use the funds to buy/reserve what need to be bought ahead of time.

  • @hhayweaver(61)· 76d

    Like Nancy, just say NO..

  • @filotasriza3(72)· 76d

    NO

there is no point. Instead, we should focus on making Hive Healthy again from within before seeking investors or new people. Honestly if I were an investor and did some digging here, i would not invest at this point. Also if i was an average joe even if i tried to make some posts and such and realized that my earnings are basically nothing i would leave. I am talking as an average joe from Barcelona and Spain in general where there is a specific salary range. If i was in Africa even 1$ may have been helpful

  • @uwelang(79)· 77d

A straight No from me - love your work on these events but currently the chain has other issues with several DHF proposals and spendings - talking and celebrating us Hive is not the way to survive I fear.

  • @delirius(11)· 77d

Que buena onda el post sobre "Should HiveFest ChainCulture", @roelandp. Ahí va mi voto!

  • @danielvehe(77)· 77d

Thank you for your honesty; I really appreciate it. 🙏

My answer is NO. What we need is to unite around clear goals. We need to build a movement involving the ENTIRE community—like the one we saw against JS—not just the same group on Discord. This is essential for developing a strategy to save Hive.

We need to set aside, for a moment, the dreamy vision fueled by promises and hopes. We need to create business models that bring money into Hive, not take it out.

  • @borsengelaber(76)· 77d

    Clear NO

  • @lordbutterfly(80)· 77d

Would not doing Hivefest at all as is, and just merging it into Chainculture be possible? Maybe adjust branding a bit. "Which major communities are present. Hive is here." -> Gets its own area, or whatever.

Would that save money? We saw last time how many people showed up from outside of Hive to Chainculture and how many showed up to the Hivefest days. The difference was 5-10x.

We would get all the same Hivers anyways there, but all the attendance Chainculture (being brand neutral) gets as well. And networking is what we need.

I always thought Hivefest is a "nice to have" and Chainculture absolutely necessary.

  • @sm-silva(56)· 77d

No, everyone should pay with their own pocket...

  • @stayoutoftherz(80)· 77d

NO. If the meeting is felt asneeded, I suggest to let it get sponsored by top stakeholders / profiteers who milk the chain since years via constant power down, but not from the DHF. And if it happens, I hope you put on the agenda some open discussions on how to support the Hive price aka how to reduce the selling pressure. If the outcome of such discussion is e.g. to reduce the HBD APR and the HP inflation and reduce the DHF funding, at least it had some benefit. But the usual "Hive is so great, we all are so great" narrative won´t work.

PS: You could have run a poll, would be easier then to quantify the feedback. I hope you just forgot and are aware that such a poll tool exists.

  • I would love to say yes, but my head tells me a big NO.

  • @offgridlife(74)· 77d

    Yes

    With DHF fund

Everyone should get to travel and stay for Free via DHF Funding …

Everyone on Hive gets $ 25,000 HBD for Free Travel, Hotel and meals.

    Everything paid via DHF

I will write up a new Proposal.

    Please Vote.

Hive Fest Travel paid via DHF - a proposal by @offgridlife

HiveFest XI and ChainCulture all Travel Paid by DHF

  • I think it should happen but maybe with a smaller budget. HiveFest is much more than marketing the platform to outsiders it also provides a (much needed, this year) boost to user engagement, morale, and a bolstering of our online community ties in general. The platform is clearly struggling. It would be highly valuable to have an open discussion in Barcelona while everyone is face-to-face about what we can do to make Hive better in the coming year—with an end goal of having a road map for improvements. This kind of thing is always more effective to do in person vs. online. We have enough high-IQ individuals here to solve just about any problem if they put their heads together. I feel like if we have nothing at all after a ten year streak of getting together it could be the beginning of the end.

  • @chinito(73)· 77d

while I know hivefest is a great event and very important for hive, i do think now is a good time to rest and regroup.. gear up for the upcoming year of hive rise..

Tell me you are going all guerrilla tactics and ChainCulture will be seen by those attending European Blockchain Convention as some cool next day after party. Otherwise, this will just be one of hundreds of unknown gatherings around the city that a couple of nerds could of geeked out over in someones basement.

  • @acidyo(84)· 78d

I personally think it should happen, I'm not too sure about chainculture as I've only ever watched the streams and never attended, but kind of feels like cancelling it after 10 consecutive years would feel like a bigger blow to moral than prices are doing these days.

I think we should be way more careful with proposals and it seems like many are ending now and giving us some breathing room (although if our sell pressure from proposals/rewardspool really has an effect on market is hard to say - I lean against no, considering there's like 60% of all hive on exchanges and alts out there doing just as bad as we are, so it is mostly in the hands of the markets imo and many of us are just desperately looking for people to point fingers at). Anyway, quite a long sentence as usual, I'm not great at keeping those short.

Even though I recognize this comment is going to trigger quite a lot of people, keep in mind I'm saying this as unselfishly as possible since I've never attended and doubtful to attend this one either, it should get funded and it should happen.

This is coming from someone who's all in hive pretty much and for the past few years decided to fairly launch a gaming project that turned way bigger than expected against a declining price that kept eating at most of his hive and continues to. So I'm definitely there with people about the price hurting us and I'm unsure how much longer I would've been able to take it mentally but am somewhat optimistic again with AI making things cheaper and possible to work on for myself rather than have to rely too much on others to get things done who mostly look to extract as much as they can - maybe we've had a similar issue in the DHF compartment over the years as some outsourced devs/artists/others I've had the "pleasure" of working together with these last few years regarding my project.

I warned you about long sentences.

  • @palomap3(76)· 78d

My heart says yes, for me it would be a dream fulfilled. But my brain says no. The reasons have been perfectly explained by @igormuba in his comment: https://peakd.com/chainculture/@igormuba/re-roelandp-202667t134453833z

  • @igormuba(72)· 78d

Should Hive fund HiveFest XI and ChainCulture this year? No.

I said it before elaborating because you asked it clearly. It saddens me that so many people are answering with a coward "it depends" or "we need more information".

Now, it is not because I think it should not fund that I would not vote for the proposal. Ecency and Keychain ask for a lot of money and I think that the DHF should not fund them right now but still I vote for them. I may retract my vote but for now I vote for them and I would vote for funding HiveFest but I think that under current market conditions the DHF should not fund it and should not fund them despite my temporary vote of approval.

I am sorry for the contradictory answer but it is honest. I thought about it overnight. Over the past couple hours I was drifting between "yes, I would support it" and "no, we are broke" but I have reached the conclusion it should not fund.

Even if you manage to reimburse the DHF, the sell pressure can't be undone

Suppose you take the funds, sell, pay for the event, somehow make it back and send he HBD back to the fund. Unless the HBD made back was bought as HIVE from the market it will not undo the sell pressure. Very likely most people going to HiveFest will pay off of their curation and inflation rewards. That does not add buy pressure to make up for the sell pressure. I am open to hear if there are other planned ways to revert sell pressure, because the DHF is not funds, it is market liquidity.

Way too many people can afford the tickets or even sponsor the event by paying with the rewards they have made from the inflation. Both the DHF and the inflation are sell pressure with extra steps. Few people will be willing to pay $400 on a ticket with their credit card or their money made off chain, some may pay by cash, but guess what? Cash that came by selling HBD into HIVE and HIVE into money.

Hive does not look good, what will we even promote?

Suppose this gets funded, as nd I said I will very likely vote for it and I know whales and projects are eager to promote themselves during the fest. What impression are we giving? Not a good one. We have been in crypto for 10 or so, maybe more years, right? Isn't it annoying when you go to events and people come to you with "hey look at this tiny chain I am investing in, you should totally give it a try", man that sucks, it makes it look like they are trying to pull us in to a pyramid scheme doesn't it?

Hive is not looking good right now. We are in that position, but worse. I don't want them to see us as I see those annoying promoters of tiny chains that are trying to pull people in.

We need RADICAL CHANGES before we promote Hive again, we are looking horrible. Look at the chart. Look at our market cap.

LOOT AT OUR DEPEGGED STABLE COIN, that is not marketable. Do you really want to go into an event with a stablecoin that is 20% below peg and a coin that has hit the millionth all time low of the year and is under 30 million in market cap while being almost 10 years old?

We are on the territory of tiny dying chains. The difference is most other tiny chains do not have dozens of people living off of their inflation, which means they are sustainably tiny, they can stay tiny for a long time, we are unsustainably tiny, we are reaching a collapsing point at any moment.

HiveFest as you envision should not even happen, but it should happen differently

I would go, I eager to go. I want to meet the people of Hive, I want it bad. I want to see the presentation. I want to talk about Hive for hours a day in person over a few days. Hive is social, Hive is community. The HiveFest you envision is a cryptobro circlejerk, near pyramid scheme level of bad looking to outsiders.

Please, make a HiveFest for hivers to meet, I know it is hard and the payoff is negligible and possibly negative, but I so wish we had a HiveFest, but not this one you describe. Make something for us to see each other. Drop the delusions of grandeur during the harshest crisis in our history. We are not professional, we are not wealthy, we are collapsing, we can't market that to outsiders and if we make outsiders buy into our pitch we will be actively fooling them, we know we are fooling them, we know it is collapsing and we are trying to bring them in? That is not what we want to do right now.

I want to go to HiveFest, I want to see projects, teams and witnesses presenting their projects, their goals, what they have built, are building and will build. I want to talk to my friends, I want to make new friends, I want to see everyone in person and talk about Hive because I love Hive. I want a HiveFest because I am obsessed with this blockchain. But I don't want us to lie neither to ourselves and specially nor to outsiders.

  • @deanliu(83)· 78d

I'll delegate my right to answer 'yes/no' to @roelandp as you know a lot more than me in this case and I trust that you will make a best decision for us all. (yeah, I can think of a lot of reasons to say yes or to say no, so... leave it to you😅)

  • @urun(69)· 78d

real world marketing would be better way to spend

  • @heruvim1978(72)· 78d

Honestly, I would say yes, but for a different Hive fest, focused a bit more on marketing, multiple channels like youtube, twitter and so, even hand some kind of invitation (digital or real) at European Blockchain convention.

What we would really need by then I think is a one-click account creation to be available, for us to offer, as I could see in Alicante that the creation of a new account was the main issue at the event. We need to simplify somehow.

  • @ph1102(79)· 78d

It's hard to say yes or no as I need more info to make that decision...

    • Is 45K the TOTAL amount for the event?

    • I suppose HF will have tickets as in previous years, and if I remember well, they were around 300-400USD? So, with 50 attendees, we would cover half of the budget?

    • What are realistic (money) numbers of potential sponsorships?

I don't want to preach how to organize the event, but maybe there is a possibility to do it without the DHF funding? Actually, that would be a perfect example of the self-sustainability of such an event and project... A great showcase that something like that is possible and a role model for all other projects on HIVE...

Thanks for all your efforts, Roeland! Appreciate all your work on HF as it's not an easy job to organize an event like this! 🙏

  • @apshamilton(73)· 78d

HiveFest itself is an important annual community gathering. It should go forward on the smallest budget possible and this should include a re-consideration of venue.

ChainCulture - the expensive bit - should be dropped. We need stop putting DHF money into trying to grow our user base as if we are a listed company where MOU is an important metric. It is not. We don't need to grow. Small communities can work better than larger ones. We just need to build and stay tight as a community.

I know you picked Barcelona because of the synergies with the European Blockchain Convention, but this actually makes an expensive city more expensive.

Why not move it to somewhere much cheaper like Romania or Cyprus in late Oct November in a city or town where nothing else is going on at the time and people can get cheap accomodation & venues?

  • @gengua(62)· 78d

    Hi, @roelandp.

You asked the right and timely question.

I think that any events during HiveFest should not be funded with DHF funds unless these events generate revenue that will be returned DHF.

At the same time, I ask a related question:

Why not turn HiveFest into a full-fledged annual crypto conference that generates revenue for its organizers?

I know organizers of similar events who could help organize this with the involvement of sponsors and visitors.

Such cooperation will allow the world to learn more about HIVE, and the organizers of the event to protect their business interests.

For example, next week in Kyiv will be held the crypto conference Incrypted (https://incryptedconference.com/en).

Last year, this conference gathered more than 3 thousand participants.

And it took place in Kyiv during the war.

Among the sponsors and partners of the conference were well-known crypto exchanges and crypto media.

I think the organizers of this conference will be interested in taking part in HiveFest in Barcelona in September this year.

If you're interested, I can give you the organizers' contacts.

If you can agree on a joint organization of HiveFest, the HIVE community and everyone involved in organizing the event will definitely benefit from it.

  • @lemony-cricket(63)· 78d

This one yes-or-no question seems to bundle many other questions together in a way that seems a bit unfair to anyone who would answer those questions differently from one another. Those questions include, but are not limited to:

    • Should HiveFest happen?
    • Should ChainCulture happen?
    • Should HiveFest and/or ChainCulture rely on DHF funding?
    • Should whatever event take place, should it be focused inward upon the community, outward as a Hive-sponsored networking/outreach operation, or both?
    • Do you already have the trip booked? :)

I have my own feelings about each of these, and they do not coalesce into an answer I'm comfortable giving as an unqualified yes/no answer to the specific question asked.

TL;DR: I would vote in support of the proposal, which I believe is the only proper and fair way to settle your question. (but really, this is probably the longest-bodied comment operation I've signed in several years; please do read it)

Before I go on, let me first address the ChainCulture/outreach question separately.

Perhaps complicating this point is my somewhat unpopular, yet unwavering, opinion that "Hive is OK". I have this opinion because, frankly, my ideas about Hive conflict with many of the most popular ideas about what it should be and how it should perform. As I tell everyone who will listen, I see HIVE, the token, as something much closer to real estate than money, or more intimately, I treat what I have of it as I would treat my "forever home": if it's sold someday, it'll probably be after I'm dead. That is to say, I'm not overly concerned with its market value. I have grown rather weary of watching people I like say mean things about other people I like because of arguments about DHF allocation, the rewards pool, and other sources of inflation.

The core business proposition of ChainCulture is, of course, growth. The prevailing philosophy everywhere I look is that we must grow; we must network; we must proselytise and, at the end of the day, the most important measure of Hive's success is its token price. I do not share this philosophy and never have. Now, I would be happy to see Hive become more valuable. I would be happy if more people join, if more products are built on top of it, and so on... I'm all for connecting and learning and growing (yes, even pricewise, in due time). So I do not dislike the ChainCulture concept at all, but I really dislike that it has become the focus of an existential question about HiveFest.

All that being said, I really, really want HiveFest to happen. It's an event with great personal significance to me. Aside from affording me the yearly opportunity to meet with a group of people who have grown important to me, those who know, know why it's so special ;)

I'm not going to sit here and try to make a case that the DHF should fund HiveFest, though. Would I vote for the proposal if it makes HiveFest happen? Absolutely! "But Lem," one might ask, "isn't that just like answering 'yes'?" Not at all!

I'm aware that a lot of people are heavily invested in Hive not just emotionally, but materially and financially, all at a significant opportunity cost. I believe those people have earned their stake and, therefore, their right to vote on DHF funding. If a DHF proposal achieves funding, it is because our consensus mechanism has weighed everyone's stake and determined that it is the proper thing to do as a result. Therefore, I feel no shame throwing my tiny stake in the ring, because if it's funded, I'll only be personally responsible for my stake's share of the allocation, which would be comically minuscule.

In this comment section, on the other hand, I feel that answering "yes" to the question asked ("Should Hive fund HiveFest XI and ChainCulture this year") would express an affirmative stance that yes, those who have much more stake than I do, many of whom may not even attend the event, should be expected to effectively bankroll a whole outreach event with four-part harmony, which they may or may not believe in, simply because I want to continue a tradition and meet up with friends. That would be incredibly self-absorbed of me, wouldn't it? However, I would personally be disappointed if a decision to cancel HiveFest due to insufficient funding were based on a vibe check, and not the cryptographically-proven consensus mechanism our chain has for this express purpose.

    No, sorry

Personally, I don't know. I am going to attend the event - taking @asia-pl and kids to Barcelona with flights and accommodation booked and paid. So I want to take part in great event that would fill me with some positivity about Hive that I really need right now. What is more, we need to show to outsiders that we have a real and vibrant community. Solana is being described as the most friendly community right now, we need to show the world what Hive is and what can one do on it. You can't do that without shills , paid sponsorships and promotion.

On the other hand, I constantly advocate for burning DHF HBD eternally like @mantequilla-soft suggested - None in the right mind would invest in Hive there's another 20 million of dollars waiting to dilute your stake. I advocate for burning as much Hive as possible. DHF is the main cause of the inflation we are experiencing.

So you see the conflicting ideas.

Nevertheless, I'd support the proposal if you committed not to convert HBD into Hive, use internal market or @magi.network to swap it to Hive (as I understand Hive is a gateway) plus there's also BTC available on Magi. This might mitigate the negative effects of financing from DHF

No. Scale down to whatever sponsorships, donations and entrance fees can provide.

    No!

I was so excited about the Hivefest XI and booked everything the same week of the announcement. I was hoping for a friend of mine to have their first Hivefest as well.

If this question for a definite yes or no would have been asked each year Hivefest has happened, I feel it would have likely never happened (for me it is always a yes).

  • @russia-btc(71)· 78d

    No!

  • @cryptoreforma(72)· 78d

No, HIVE should not fund HiveFest XI and ChainCulture this year.

This way, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a well-deserved vacation with your children and family.

    Current events demand new reflections.

Thank you for your honesty; I reciprocate with mine.

Honestly, for a “straight yes or no”, there are still a lot of unknowns here.

Should we invest 45 thousand dollars? I am clearly in favor, provided that all of the following criteria are met:

    • we can clearly define what we are getting in return
    • we can clearly define how we are going to achieve it
    • we can clearly define under what circumstances we are going to achieve it
    • we can clearly define the risks, especially the external ones — meaning the ones we cannot control
    • we will have clear checkpoints and deadlines for each step
    • we will have clear ownership and responsibility for each step
    • and, taking all of the above into account, the investment still makes sense

And as a bonus: we won’t get bitter if it does not work out. Because even if a plan is 99.99% perfect, it can still be derailed by a combination of unlikely circumstances. After all, someone does win the lottery from time to time, and the odds there are even lower.
