Hello Everyone! Hope you all are doing great and welcome to another post.
Whenever the holiday season approaches, most people start wondering what they should do this time around. Some plan to travel, others think about visiting relatives, while some simply want a brief break from their daily routines. As for me, my holidays probably won’t be much different from my ordinary days. I haven’t planned a trip to any specific destination, nor am I preparing for any major activities. However, there is one thing I am eagerly looking forward to: the winter season!
I quite enjoy winter. The cold weather, relaxing comfortably at home, and engaging in activities I love. To me, this is no less than a great vacation. I believe that to enjoy a holiday, it isn’t necessary to travel somewhere or spend a lot of money. Sometimes, simply staying home and making time for your favorite pastimes is more than enough.
This winter, I have three main things in mind that I’m already excited about: I want to read plenty of books on my Kindle, play various games on my PS5, and spend more time than usual at the gym. If I manage to do all three well, I think my winter is going to be quite a good one.
Intention To Read Lots of Books on Kindle
One of the things I look forward to most this winter is reading books on my Kindle. Ever since I started using a Kindle, reading has become much easier for me. I no longer have to worry about where to store every new book I buy, as a vast number of books can be kept on a single, compact device.
I already have quite a collection of ebooks, but the challenge is that new titles keep getting added, and my reading list never seems to end. Sometimes, I come across a book and feel an urge to read it, only to then discover another intriguing one that makes me change my mind. Perhaps this is a common experience for those who love to read.
This winter, I intend to get through as many books from my list as I can. At times, I might feel like diving into a fantasy world; at others, I might prefer a serious, thought provoking story, the kind that stays on my mind long after I’ve finished reading it.
When I’m reading, I completely lose track of time. I often tell myself I’ll just finish one chapter before putting the Kindle away, but as the story draws me in, I end up reading chapter after chapter. There is a unique pleasure in doing this during the long winter evenings.
I might not manage to complete every book on my list, but I can certainly give it a try. And if I happen to come across a new book along the way, my list might just grow even longer, that’s something that happens to me quite often!
Playing Various Games on the PS5
Beyond reading books, another thing I’m looking forward to is playing various games on my PS5.
For me, video games are a great source of entertainment, especially those with compelling stories or expansive worlds to explore. At times, playing a game feels just like watching a movie, with the key difference being that I am an active participant in the story.
This winter, I’d like to try out some new titles rather than sticking to just one or two games. There are so many games out there that it’s practically impossible to play them all. In fact, sometimes I spend more time deciding which game to play than actually playing one!
There are also games I’ve been meaning to play for a long time but haven’t managed to start for one reason or another, perhaps this winter will be the perfect time to finally dive into them.
That said, I don’t want to spend my entire day sitting in front of a screen. While gaming is enjoyable, I also need to make time for reading and going to the gym. I believe the real joy lies in striking a good balance between one’s favorite activities.
If I can spend a few hours of the day on work and other responsibilities, head to the gym, and then relax with some gaming in the evening, that would be an ideal day for me.
I Need to Focus More on the Gym This Winter
Now, let’s talk about an activity that is important not just for recreation, but also for my health: going to the gym.
I already go to the gym, but this winter, I aim to improve my exercise routine and become more consistent.
We all, at some point, make plans to focus more on our health, exercise, and get into better shape. However, making a plan and sticking to it consistently are two different things. Some days go very well, I feel motivated to exercise, and everything falls into place. Then, there are days when I don’t even feel like getting out of bed.
In winter, in particular, the thought of leaving a warm bed to head to the gym can be quite daunting. It’s easy to think, "Let’s skip it today; I’ll go tomorrow." But if I keep doing that, how will I ever build consistency?
This time, instead of just waiting for motivation to strike, I want to establish a routine that is easy to follow. If I can manage to keep up with my workouts throughout the winter, I’m confident I’ll be quite pleased with myself.
My goal is to prioritize my health alongside my interests in books and games. While recreation is important, taking care of one’s health is equally essential.
What If I Had The House For A Few Days?
Now, here is something I’ve been looking forward to: I’m hoping my parents and sister will head to Karachi this winter. (It's a city in Pakistan)
It’s not that I don’t enjoy spending time with them; it’s just that, sometimes, one feels the need to spend some time alone. If they go to Karachi, I’ll have the house mostly to myself, giving me the chance to spend my time exactly as I please.
Just imagine: waking up in the morning, finishing my usual routine, heading to the gym, coming back to rest for a while, and then settling down in the evening to read a book on my Kindle. Afterward, if I feel like it, I could play a game on my PS5. No need to worry about disturbing anyone, no rushing to get things done, and no need to constantly wonder what I should do next.
I’ll be able to do the things I enjoy, at my own pace. If I feel like spending three hours reading a book one day, I can; if I want to spend a long evening playing a game, I can do that too.
Another advantage of living alone is the ability to better organize one’s own routine. Of course, it also means taking on some extra household chores, handling the cleaning and other responsibilities, but in my view, a little extra work is a small price to pay for such freedom.
For now, this is just a wish; we’ll see if it actually happens. Even if my family doesn’t end up going to Karachi, it’s not a problem, I can still enjoy the winter while they’re here. It’s just that I might have fewer opportunities to do exactly what I want, whenever I want.
Will I Be Able to Fully Enjoy the Holidays?
A question that arises in this context is whether circumstances will actually allow me to fully enjoy my holidays.
In my case, I don’t have any specific travel plans that could be disrupted. My days will likely follow a routine, and that doesn’t bother me at all.
Of course, daily tasks and responsibilities remain. Sometimes the workload might be heavier, there might be days when I can’t make it to the gym, or perhaps I’ll end up spending more time playing games than reading books. It’s also possible that I won’t manage to finish as many books as I had originally planned.
But I don’t believe everything has to go exactly according to plan. What truly matters is making time for the things that bring us joy.
I don’t want to reach the end of winter only to realize that I spent the entire season simply waiting for the next day to arrive. I want to read some good books, try out new games, stay consistent with my gym routine, and make the most of my free time.
For me, a good holiday doesn’t necessarily mean doing something extraordinary every single day. Sometimes, simply sitting back, doing something you enjoy, and taking your mind off your daily routine is more than enough.
