Meriput Magician: This Tiny Healer Is Actually Really Useful!

Hello Everyone! Hope you all are doing great and welcome to another #Splinterlands post.

Alright, time for another #Splinterlands card spotlight!

Today I’m looking at a card that might not look super powerful when you first see it.

It's small.

It only has 1 magic attack.

And it costs 5 mana.

But when you look at the abilities, this little guy actually has quite a lot going on.

The card I'm talking about is, Meriput Magician.

Meriput Magician is a Common Life unit, and at Level 10, which is the max level, it has 3 abilities:

  • Tank Heal – Each round, restores 1/3 of max health to the allied unit in the first position.

  • Shield – Takes 50% less damage from physical attacks, or 0 damage from physical attacks of 1 power.

  • Strengthen – Gives +1 max health to all allied units.

And the stats are:

  • Mana Cost: 5

  • Magic Attack: 1

  • Health: 8

  • Speed: 5

So yeah, the damage isn't exactly scary.

But this card isn't really here to destroy the enemy.

It's here to keep your team alive.

First Impressions

When I first look at Meriput Magician, the first thing I notice is that 1 magic attack.

Honestly, that's pretty low.

If you're looking for a damage dealer, this isn't the card.

But then I started looking at the abilities.

Tank Heal.

Shield.

Strengthen.

And suddenly the card makes a lot more sense.

This is basically a support unit.

Its job isn't to carry the damage.

Its job is to make everyone else better.

And I actually really like cards like this because sometimes support can make a much bigger difference than another attacker.

Ability 1: Tank Heal

Tank Heal: Each round, restores 1/3 of max health to the allied unit in the first position.

Let's start with the most important ability.

Tank Heal.

Every round, Meriput Magician restores 1/3 of the max health of the allied unit in the first position.

This can be HUGE.

Your frontline tank is normally the unit taking all the punishment.

Enemy attackers are hitting it again and again.

Without healing, eventually that tank is going down.

But with Meriput Magician sitting safely behind it...

The tank gets healed every round.

That means your frontline can survive for much longer.

And in #Splinterlands, sometimes surviving one extra round is enough to completely change the result of a battle.

Ability 2: Shield

Shield: 50% less damage from physical attacks or 0 damage from physical attacks of 1 power.

The second ability is Shield.

Shield reduces physical damage by 50%, and physical attacks with only 1 power can deal 0 damage.

That's pretty useful for a support unit.

Normally, you'd expect a healer sitting in the backline to be fairly easy to kill.

But Meriput Magician has 8 health, 5 speed and Shield.

So it's not completely helpless.

If a physical attacker somehow gets to it, Shield can help it survive.

And that extra survivability is important because...

A dead healer isn't healing anybody.

The longer Meriput Magician stays alive, the more value you can get from Tank Heal.

Ability 3: Strengthen

Strengthen: +1 max health to all allied units.

Now we get to the third ability.

Strengthen.

This gives +1 max health to all allied units.

And this is one of those abilities that can be easy to overlook.

It's only +1 health.

Doesn't sound like much, right?

But it's affecting your entire team.

If you have six units on the battlefield, that's potentially an extra 1 max health for every single one of them.

And when you're already using a healer...

That extra health becomes even more useful.

Your units have more health to work with, while your tank is getting healed every round.

That's a pretty nice combination.

The Support Combination Is What Makes It Good

This is probably my favorite thing about Meriput Magician.

The abilities actually work together.

Strengthen gives your team more max health.

Tank Heal keeps your frontline healthy.

Shield helps Meriput Magician survive physical attacks.

So instead of being a card that does one thing...

It's helping the team in multiple ways.

And that's why I don't think you should judge this card just by looking at its 1 magic attack.

The attack is basically a bonus.

The real value is in the support abilities.

How I Would Use It

Personally, I would put Meriput Magician somewhere in the backline.

I definitely wouldn't put it in the first position unless the battle rules gave me some weird reason to do it.

The whole point is to keep it protected.

Put a strong tank in front.

Then let Meriput Magician sit behind the frontline and continuously heal it.

Meanwhile, Strengthen is giving your other units a little more health.

And if something does manage to reach the Magician, Shield gives it some protection against physical damage.

That's basically the ideal situation.

5 Mana Is Actually Reasonable

At first, I thought 5 mana might be a little expensive for a card with only 1 magic attack.

But after looking at everything it provides...

I think it's pretty reasonable.

You're not really paying 5 mana for the damage.

You're paying for:

Tank Heal + Shield + Strengthen.

That's a completely different way of looking at the card.

If you need another damage dealer, then obviously there are better choices.

But if your team is dying because your frontline can't survive long enough?

A card like Meriput Magician can potentially solve that problem.

CONCLUSION

I actually think Meriput Magician is a pretty underrated little support card.

It's not one of those cards that immediately makes you go:

"WOW! Look at that attack!"

Instead, you look at it and think...

"Okay, 1 magic attack."

But then you notice the abilities.

And that's where things get interesting.

Tank Heal is extremely useful.

Shield gives the card some protection.

And Strengthen helps the entire team.

For a common 5 mana card, that's honestly a pretty nice package.

Anyway thats it for today’s #Splinterlands grind. Please do give your reviews in the comments section below. I would really appreciate it :)

I'll be back with another one soon. So do follow me if you want to stay updated. Till then, Stay Happy and Stay Hydrated.
