How Have I Been?

How Have I Been?

How Have I Been?

I haven’t been very active on Hive lately. I think the way I’ve been feeling has had a lot to do with it. Trading has shaken my mood and affected my outlook on life. I won’t hide it: over the past few days, I’ve felt a lot of emotions, mostly difficult ones. Above all, stress.

In my previous post, I wrote that I had managed to recover some of my losses after being liquidated. I deposited $3,000 into my futures account and grew it to $6,000. But my happiness didn’t last long.

I opened a short position on ZEC, the same coin that had liquidated me before. Its price had already risen a lot, yet it went up by several dozen percent more. I could hardly believe a coin that well known could move so sharply. My position came within a few dozen dollars of being liquidated again. It was incredibly close. Maybe it was divine intervention that saved me.

I tried to reduce my losses and move my liquidation price further away. I started trading more aggressively, opening long positions against my short. My liquidation price gradually moved higher, and that ultimately saved me. Thankfully, I survived that move on ZEC.

For now, things have worked out. After the previous liquidation, I had just $50 left in my account. I managed to build it back up to $3,000, then $6,000, and now I’m at around $8,000. All of this happened in the last ten days.

Those were ten days of fighting my own weaknesses. Stress, feeling low, and the thought that I might lose everything, along with my chance to pursue my dreams. I felt awful, but I tried to carry on as usual around other people. I still had to go to work, smile, play with my kids, and spend time with them. Hardly anyone knows what’s going on in my head. I’ve never been someone who finds it easy to talk about my problems. I usually try to handle them on my own.

Does trading affect our mental well-being?

For me, it definitely does. When I’m winning, I’m happy and smiling. But there are also days, sometimes even weeks, when trading really weighs on me. Losing money hurts, and the risk of losing everything is even more stressful.

I haven’t felt this bad because of trading in a long time. I can accept one liquidation, no matter how big the loss is. The possibility of a second one is much harder to face. It scares me more because, after the first loss, I have far less room for error.

HIVE Is Going Up

On top of all that, the price of HIVE went up.

Someone might say, “You should be happy. You own a lot of HIVE!” And in a way, they’d be right. But the thought that I might not get another chance to buy HIVE at such a low price bothered me more than the rising value of what I already hold made me happy.

I also know that keeping my HIVE staked has its limitations. When the price rises suddenly, I can’t simply sell at the top and buy it back cheaper if it falls. That was one more small thing that didn’t help my mood over the past few days.

Being a trader is like being in a rollercoaster of losses , gains as well as rising and falling emotions. One minute your trade hits TP and you're feeling sooo happy, and the next, SL. Emotions comes in rushing, and choking. The saddest part is when you have no crypto or Forex-minded people for you to share with.

One thing I've come to understand is that, trading is not just about the Tech analysis. It encompasses that. Trading psychology and ability to handle one's emotions is also very important.

Above all, it's a good thing that you remained profitable. That means you won against your emotions. That's a plus to you. Hopefully, this week, goes well.

    What strategy do you trade?

Trading crypto is not an easy game, @rozioo. That's like walking in a minefield.

  • I don't think that would make a good trader. it woul mix really badlly with my gambling problems(that I had in the past)-after losing something I would try to win it back as soon as possible and end up losing more. So perhaps it is for the best that I just keep holding/ buying Hive. Recent increase in Hive price was bittersweet for me as well. I am happy that it is recovering. But I am able to buy less HP now.

Anyway it is good thing that you were able to avoid the worst outcome.

  • Cryptocurrencies feel like a rollercoaster right now.

I myself have lost a lot of money trading in crypto. And then finally decided not to trade in futures and options. Good to hear that you recovered your losses. And on the question trading affecting mental peace.. Yes it does affect a lot. All our mind is towards the position we have and when we go to sleep we keep thinking about the position and liquidation risk.. Take care.. Cheers

Woo, you had a good win in the last ten days. Trading is never easy, it dealt with your metal health a lot, even the expact losses because of one or two wrong setups. Trading always have a way of controlling one's emotions, its never easy to become a trader especially if you have problem controlling emotions. Trading humbles in a way that you will begin to ask yourself if this side of you really exist..

Trading is a addictive and gives a rush of adrenaline, but it is a source of stress as well. One of my friends was trading stocks with leverage, went up over $1 million and he was riding the wave. And few months later he lost it all and since 1 year doesn't touch it anymore. I prefer steady investments with balanced growth, than going through those emotions. Hope you recovered from that and you can push forward with a lesson learned, like I did many times in the past.

Thats crazy man, feels like i have gone through those same scenarios, same feelings, and yet we must still stand as men. Somehow move forward, keep working, building back up, and learning our lessons. I know the liquidation feeling. I have tried to swear it all away, to not trade high frequency anymore. Its a rough thing. Lately i like the slower game. Just building a nice pile of cash, to throw in on a nice obvious trade. And make sure to capture that profit, and protect your capital.

Keep at it tho bro, it is nice that hive is feeling a bit stronger.

    Market moves sometimes like crazy.

I remember when few years ago after founding fee at 2 am I earned like 80$ on short because price fallen like 10% and then I decided to play long on the same coin and 1h later coin drop another 30% and I lost my profit from previous trade and I had loss another 1k$ because I had bigger long than short before.

So trading is really hard and the worst enemy is our profits and greed after making money.
