Just wrapped up this characterful pup, rendered in a charcoal pencil style. I really wanted to capture a sense of energy and curiosity in this little guy, like he's just spotted something interesting on the horizon.
I focused on using varied strokes to define the different elements – looser, smudgier lines for the body and clothing, and slightly more defined edges for the hat and facial features to bring out his expression.
It's always fun to translate a more graphic style into something with a bit more texture and traditional feel. This was a great little exercise
