ENGLISH VERSION
The daily rush meant I’d often have nothing but a coffee with milk for breakfast—though I always made sure the kids had a proper meal to fuel them for school. An arepa or a simple roll with a bit of cheese—and avocado, whenever we had it—rounded out a good breakfast. And if there was time, a fried egg to go with it.
I understand that kids sometimes don't feel like eating early; that used to happen with my nieces and nephews, though not with my own children. They always woke up ready to eat and had healthy appetites, happily eating whatever I put on the table. Still, getting them ready on time meant waking them up early; otherwise, they’d end up just taking their breakfast in their lunchboxes, grabbing snack money, and downing their coffee with milk in a rush. They’d be in such a hurry that a drop might spill on a uniform, forcing a quick change of clothes.
It is so different from breakfast on the other side of the world—or at least for those who had it—featuring the jamón ibérico that some dream of; one must take the time to savor such delicacies. In the end, breakfasts often turn into a rush, yet they also become cherished memories of time spent with the children.
Now, there is always time to have breakfast at a leisurely pace and enjoy the delights that life offers us.
