Saludos amigos de Top Family llega un jueves de nostalgia y de un poco de lluvia en la ciudad de Madrid para traer cada jueves un espacio a los recuerdos fotográficos de la mano del profesor @lanzjoseg y contar un poco de esa historia que recordamos.

Cuando veo la imagen de mi abuela Ángeles veo claramente el rostro de mi madre y al mismo tiempo refleja el mio, la familiaridad se continua en cada generación a veces saltando rostros. Mi madre tenia el rostro de su madre pero el carácter de su padre. Yo tengo el rostro de mi madre pero el carácter de mi padre. Ya sea por aprendizaje o imitación seguimos ciertos patrones que a veces corregimos.
Les he contado que mis dos abuelas tenían por nombre Ángeles es una coincidencia muy sutil. Ya lo que recuerdo de mi abuela materna es que no tenia memoria y yo la entretenía poniéndole musica española y bailándole con su mantilla que aún conservo en casa. Podía distraerla horas con la música y esas canciones antiguas.

When I see a picture of my grandmother Ángeles, I clearly see my mother's face, and at the same time, it reflects my own. The familiarity continues in each generation, sometimes skipping faces. My mother had her mother's face but her father's character. I have my mother's face but my father's character. Whether through learning or imitation, we follow certain patterns that we sometimes correct.
I've mentioned that both my grandmothers were named Ángeles; it's a very subtle coincidence. What I remember about my maternal grandmother is that she had no memory, and I would entertain her by playing Spanish music and dancing for her in her mantilla, which I still have at home. I could distract her for hours with the music and those old songs.
A mi abuelo Teodoro no era fácil de mantener tranquilo, sus dientes en un vaso con agua a lado de la mesita de noche y su frasco de polvos marca corega para pegarlos cuando fuera a comer. Tenía siempre unos chocolaticos pequeños que antes vendían en su mesa de noche para los nietos, pero no se podía abusar de agarrar muchos o te pisaba la mano con la gaveta.
Sin duda eran otros tiempos y nuestros mayores se veían más acabados de los que vemos ahora, mucho más activos y se cuidan su salud. Algunos abuelos son tan jóvenes como los padres y con mucha más experiencia. La vida nos ha dado la oportunidad de mirar otros tiempos y momentos, de poder comparar con el pasado.
Por supuesto hay abuelos de todos los estilos y siempre con un aprendizaje nuevo.

My grandfather Teodoro wasn't easy to keep calm. He kept his dentures in a glass of water next to his nightstand, and a jar of Corega brand denture powder to glue them back in before meals. He always had little chocolates on his nightstand, the kind they used to sell for grandchildren, but you couldn't take too many or he'd slam his hand on the drawer.
Those were different times, and our elders looked more worn than they do now, much more active and health-conscious. Some grandparents are as young as their parents and have much more experience. Life has given us the opportunity to look back at other times and moments, to compare them with the past.
Of course, there are all kinds of grandparents, and there's always something new to learn.
