Have you noticed that there is a very big difference between just thinking about going for a morning jog and telling a friend that you will go for a jog by 6:00am tomorrow morning? The first one is only a wish and may just stay inside your head. When thoughts stay in your head for long, they may easily be Ignored. Each time the thought comes, you may simply tell yourself that it is a nice idea, but without doing anything, the thought would just vanish. But when you speak it out, there is something that will change about it. You will see yourself making plans for it. Which will then transform it into action. This is why it is not just enough to have a wish or a dream, but you have to make plans for it.

I have come to realise that vocalizing or speaking about your dream is not just a motivational trick. There is a powerful physiological response that will be triggered, which will change how you process your dream and your goal. You have to understand that when you lock your dream inside your mind, it will simply exist in a crowded place that is filled with other random thoughts. But when you speak it into existence, you will see the need to act on them. It will also give you the zeal to take the necessary actions. The words you speak will influence the actions you give, and this also includes your own words.
In one of the times I stayed with one of my uncle some years back while I was on vacation from school, I observed something unusual about him. Each day he woke up, he would stand up and talk some very positive words to himself. Sometimes he would face a mirror and speak to himself like his is talking to someone. Then he would tell himself what he would do, then at the concluding part of the statement, he would call his name and say "you can do this." At some point, I asked him why he does that, and he replied that his words are to remind him that he can do what he believes he can, and that he can achieve his dream. Observably, he achieved so much in his field of endeavour.
One of my friends who is a motivational speaker once said that your brain listens to the words you say. Which means that when you say something, your brain and your mind will subconsciously believe it even more than the words of others. If someone says that you cannot achieve something, and you repeat the same words to yourself, your mind will automatically pick it up and you will lose the motivation to even try. But even if someone says you cannot achieve it, but you tell yourself that you can achieve it, your words will be favoured over the words of the person. Your brain does not just hear yours words, it sees them as instructions. This will make the mind to work to align your actions with your words.

More so, when you speak your goals aloud, it can lead to encouragement even when you start to deviate from it. I remember some years back, I told myself that I would be attending a skill acquisition seminar every weekend until I master a particular skill. I even said it to the ears of my friends. So I started. After a couple of weeks, a weekend came and I did not feel like going. My friend asked me what day it was, and I told him. He asked me if I was not supposed to go for learning, I told him that I don't feel like. Then he asked me if I have mastered the skill, and I told him not yet. He encouraged me and saw to it that I went. Imagine if I did not speak out my goal, he would not have known, and the encouragement would not have come.
I have come to understand that being vocal about what you want will change the way you interact with the world around you. If you keep everything secret, how will people help you? This does not mean that you should go about telling people of your words, but at least there are people you should trust. When you learn to communicate your intentions clearly, you will attract more opportunities. You might mention a goal to a friend or even a coworker and they will tell you "Oh I know someone that can help you with that." So you see, do not keep your biggest aspirations absolutely silent.
