Greetings!
One thing that has always given the students a headache and this is because of the stress that used to come with it. I have seen students asking questions on why they need to sit for exams just because they were to be tested on the knowledge they have gathered in the course of the term, semester or session.
Well, my own answer to this question is a simple one which is simply on the evaluation. Exams are being conducted in our schools in order to test the knowledge of the students on what they have been taught so far by their teachers.
Having said so much about exams as a test of knowledge of what the students have been taught in the course of the learning process during the session, I would like to delve into the topic of the prompt in the Hive learners community which is all about, “Exams and Tests.”
As for me, exams and tests are meant to test the knowledge of the students or learners and not their intelligence. One thing I have gotten to know recently is that exams and tests cannot actually be used to measure the learners intelligence but their memories.
For someone like me who has seen people that are brilliant failing their exams and tests and those that are not that good passing their exams just because they can actually memorize very well. It would be somehow difficult and hard for me to believe that exams and tests are meant to measure people's intelligence.
What we now have in our schools today is people passing their examination with what they are able to cram and put on their head. No wonder there's a popular saying among the students in my part of the world which says, “la cram, la pour.” Which means, you can only pour or write what you've crammed or memorised.
Now, are you now telling me that such people who only passed their examination with cramming knows what they have written down like that, one thing that I have got to know about this set of people is that, after they might have written down what they have memorised or crammed, then that's all and that's why we now have people or let me say graduates with first class or distinction result without them being intelligent as they ought to have been, they cannot even defend their result.
So, as for me, exams and tests do not show the level of people's intelligence, we gave some that have not even been to the four walls of the classroom but because they are natural intelligence can provide solutions that even the best professor in the world cannot find to the problems of the world.
In conclusion, exams and tests only help to test the knowledge of the learners about what they have learnt within a designated period of time, but not the intelligence of humans.
