Today’s task was like an impossible mission: to find a pair of flip-flops that would suit my mum – ones that were comfortable, safe and pretty.
When I say it’s an impossible mission, it’s because my mum has rather unusual feet: having worn tight, worn-out and poor-quality shoes for years, her feet have suffered greatly – her toenails have turned purple and her toes have become deformed, overlapping one on top of the other – as well as having a huge hallux valgus, or what’s commonly known as a bunion. All these issues have led to further problems, including heel spurs, amongst others.
So it’s essential that she wears good flip-flops and shoes – something we’ve been doing for about four years now. Flip-flops where you slip your toe through are bad in these cases, so I always look for ones where she can slip her whole foot in and which don’t rub or squeeze her bunions.
Today I bought a pair in burgundy – the colour is lovely. I hope they fit him well and he won’t have to exchange them. Thank goodness, that’s one less errand to do.
