Laibach - Luigi Mangione

Laibach is probably the most well-known Slovenian band worldwide. In May, they released their 10th studio album, Musick. The song “Luigi Mangione” is a single from the album, though it differs somewhat from the album's electro-pop sound. This mix of spaghetti western, gospel, and country isn’t exactly Laibach’s signature industrial style; it feels more like a departure, yet it still carries a timely political message, as always. They describe it as “the soundtrack to today’s Wild West.” They recycle contemporary memes—not as moral judgments but as signs of the times—reimagining symbols and ideologies and weaving them into a portrait of the era.

Genital Shame - I Want to Die Before You

Genital Shame is a new name to me, but it is not a traditional band; rather, it's a solo project by Erin Dawson, an American trans woman from West Virginia who plays all the instruments, sings, composes, produces, and mixes her own music. The name is intentionally provocative and refers to shame, the body, and the trans experience. She has been performing since 2022 and has released several EPs and two studio albums to date. “I Want to Die Before You” is a single from her upcoming second album, Wellness Plan, set for release in October. Musically, it’s experimental/queer black metal (she jokes about the label TWBM—transwoman black metal). The song isn’t a simple suicidal statement, but rather speaks to the tension between the desire to disappear and that which, within the body (or in another person), still keeps you alive—and the realization that even that isn’t enough.

Eddie 9V - Whole Lot Coming For You

Eddie 9V is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia. He plays a mix of blues, Southern soul, rock ’n’ roll, and funk—old-school style, featuring a horn section, an electric piano, and the sharp tone of a Fender Esquire. He’s been performing since 2016 and has released four albums to date. He’s a new name to me. The song “Whole Lot Coming For You” is a single from his upcoming album Down Here, set for release in November. It’s being released on Easy Eye Sound, the label owned by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.

SKORTS - Bodies [Live at Bowery Ballroom]

Skorts is a band I just discovered. They’re part of the Brooklyn and NYC underground scene. They’ve been playing together since 2022 and have released a few singles. Their first studio album, Incompletement, is coming out in October. “Bodies” comes from their standout show at the Bowery Ballroom in January 2025, but it was only released a week ago. The song is subtle and slow but still lively, with lots of harmonies. It blends psych-glam, post-alt, dark wave, and classic rock. Could they be the next big thing? Anything could happen.

Queens of the Stone Age - Insignificant Other

Whenever I come across something new by QOTSA, I give it a listen. When I listened to this song, I immediately thought of “Make It Wit Chu.” A nighttime groove with an electric piano, swaying guitars, and Homme's high vocals. “Insignificant Other” is the second single from Queens of the Stone Age’s new, ninth album, Perfecth, which is set to be released in October.

I'll continue with more nostalgic content, including older videos that have recently appeared online. As a fan of music and these names, I think they deserve a mention.

Smoke on the Water, Ritchie Blackmore, Deep Purple, 12 August 2026, Theater at Jones Beach

It was a historic event. It happened two weeks ago. Ritchie Blackmore, 81, founder of Deep Purple and a legend, took the stage with Deep Purple for the first time in 33 years. Because he has herniated discs, he needed a steroid injection just to be able to stand.

This Is Why Deadheads Followed The Grateful Dead Across the Country | Live 1991 - Golden Gate Park

This happened 35 years ago, though. But the video was posted recently — two weeks ago. A Grateful Dead concert on November 3, 1991, at Polo Field in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. A week after Bill Graham, a friend of the band, died, they organized a free “Laughter, Love, and Music” event in the park. Hundreds of thousands of people gathered there - Deadheads.

Tom Waits - Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Complete Concert HD

Tom Waits’ performance at his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. A beat-era bar bard, a sound with a swaying rhythm. He has influenced entire generations who have embraced his blend of theater, blues, cabaret, and noise as their own. This clip is a great introduction for anyone unfamiliar with Tom Waits: in 20 minutes, you get a sense of his voice, his stage presence, his humor, and the fact that he’s truly respected even by those who play a completely different style.
