Vocal Take Manager: a vocal director's cheat sheet

Vocal Take Manager

Directing a vocal session without a system is a mess. Takes pile up, you scribble on lyric sheets, and an hour later nobody remembers which phrase of take three was the keeper. Vocal Take Manager exists for exactly that problem.

It's a web app, nothing to install. You load in the lyrics, split them into phrases, and while the takes roll in you score each phrase with simple marks, circles and triangles and the like. There is a notes field too, the kind where you type "fix the pitch on this line" so the direction survives the session.

When you are done it builds an OK take sheet from your marks, and the app has buttons to export the whole song project or print it as a PDF. The page says everything is processed on your own device, which I appreciate when the material is unreleased.

Jun Murakami has mostly been putting out synths and plugins, so a vocal director tool was a surprise. Not glamorous at all, but the kind of practical little thing that saves you from an hour of post-session detective work.
