Hello hivers, an happy Saturday to you all! It was a sunny warm day here in my area and so me and my hubby @paolobeneforti spent a couple of hours in the main square of my city, where there is a very nice event along all the weekend: the Medioevo 1322 - Tempus Pacis! This is an event dedicated to the city’s medieval history and since 4 years the main square Piazza del Duomo came back to me middle age with a nice show all over the square. Encampments, parades, performances, activities for adults and children and some local farmers and artisans, everyone wearing costumes in the medieval style. Watching some different shows there I took a lot of pics and so I decided to write more than one content about the festival, so I can tell you a little more about the different things I watched there,
I start with the wonderful flag wavers group called Bandierai degli Uffizi from Florence:
The Bandierai degli Uffizi are the official flag wavers of the city of Florence (just to know, my city is just 30 minutes by car from Florence) and they bring the Florentine flag, drum and historical performances to festivals all around in the world. Here in Tuscany the flag wavers are a tradition and there are some school for them.
Maybe some of you don't know the flag wavers, so you have to know they are performers in the art of manipulating, throwing and exchanging large ceremonial flags through very precise movements and beautiful choreography, usually at the rythm of the drummers and wearing medieval costumes. Their performances are very impressive and it's touching to see their large flags fly in the air.
As you can see in the pics, there are many young flag wavers, this is because to manipulate that flags (one in every hand) for around 30 minutes is an hard work and so it's better to do it for younger arms. 😉
