One of my favorite parts about working retail is the amount of grown ass adults who outright refuse to learn how to use their credit cards. It is beyond belief the attitudes people give off, because they simply have veto’d learning the most basic fundamentals necessary of being part of modern society.

To clarify, I am not talking about difficult point of sale machines, banking issues, connection problems, etc… all of which are very real and very frustrating from both ends. To be entirely honest; all card machines are pretty much trash. However, I’m referring to the population of the public who can’t even spend 12 seconds to make sure they held up their end of the deal. And all that is fine, yet for some reason, many people choose to belittle and flat-out disrespect the person on the other side of the register just trying to get through their day. Often times, they resort to bragging about how much money they make; as if that somehow puts them above doing the bare minimum; the adult version of tying their shoes.
I’m kinda just ranting about this because my weekend was all-in-all fairly uneventful.. by which I mean it was rather eventful; just not in any noteworthy way. We had our little concert and bike race up here; a nice break from the monotony that comes with being in a tourist town during the fall months. It was cold and pouring rain so the concert was moved indoors; and believe me when I say, we do not have the infrastructure for this. The hotel was extremely crowded, highly intoxicated people were only held up by the crowds of people around them, hotel room doors were left open for people to wander in and out partying; honestly it was a great time, even though I was working for the majority of it.

One person in particular really blew my mind. As can be typical with certain demographics, this wonderful woman threw her card at me when I let her know her total. I informed her that there was a card machine in front of her; to which she replied ”normally I’d have someone else do this”. She proceeded to wave her card in the air somewhat near the machine, like she was casting a spell. While I politely navigated her through how to tap her card, she decided to inform me that “there is no way this card doesn’t work”, which promptly turned into her more or less yelling I PUT 40 THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH ON THIS CARD AND I PAY BACK EVERY PENNY.” I ended up having to come around the counter and tapping it for her, because I simply could not get a word in in between her telling me her husband was a millionaire and somehow blaming a certain political party(???) for herself not being able to just follow simple instructions. I cannot, for the life of me, understand how some people make it so far in life. I’ll miss her :)
So, yeah, a lot of that per usual, but that lady was a funny one to me whom I won’t forget for a long time. Anywhooo, that might have been the highlight of my weekend. I came up to work in the dark both mornings and by the time I got back down to town, darkness had returned. Night time is normally my favorite point of the day; I mean, I actively track and cheer once the days start getting shorter during these months. But, considering the weather, I had very little to do(wanted* to do) in between shifts. My little living space on wheels has yet to get heat, so when it’s 40 degrees and I’m getting back fairly wet, in the dark, it’s been hard to motivate myself to do much more than hang out inside and try to keep things dry and clean.

I watched a couple really solid films, but as I want to get back into writing movie reviews, I’ll save that for another time. On my old Hive account, film and album reviews(mixed with historical context) were kind of my main thing here.. but writing them on a phone sounds pretty miserable. I am saving up for a new computer, and after checking off a few more vital needs for Mark the van, getting some sort of internet rigged up. For the meantime, my only writing tool, other than classic pen and paper(which I actually utilize quite a bit), is this silly little smartphone.
It looks like we have some really solid weather coming up for the next week or so. More rain, and cold; sure- but also some really nice sunny, dry days in between. This is my ideal climate; I never want it to stay too consistent. Although I always enjoy the three month stretch of near perfect days here in the PNW summers.. it gets old. Maybe not for everyone, but I start to go a little crazy when I’m on day 80 of the same exact weather. And it’s nice to really be able to curl up in a blanket and get cozy- i word i do not use often; but it seems to be most appropriate here.
I got called in for an unexpected day at work today, but with a day off tomorrow and the fresh(albeit almost certainly horrible) snow, I’m hoping to hike back up and go snowboarding again. I just need to remember to dry my boots 😂
Hopefully I’ll have something a little more exciting to share with you all soon. Stay good my friends 🖤
