For a long time, I haven't seen a movie centered on a fight like this one.
This movie, The Furious, released in July 2026, is an action-packed Korean film centered on a fight to dismantle a human trafficking network that began with Wang Wei (aiming to rescue his kidnapped daughter) and Navin (searching for his journalist wife). The movie runs for 113 minutes, and it's directed by Kenji Tanigaki. I'm among those that watched this movie at night after the work of the day and I skipped my sleeping time to watch till the end, because I was really hooked.
The Plot, character ratings and criticisms:
Wang Wei, a single father of one, notices that his daughter is likely kidnapped in a fast and suspicious moving van. He runs after the fast-moving van, and a merciless fight between him and a hefty man in the truck erupts.
After the intense beating from both sides, he loses, and in his dying sight, he sees the van run off. He gets up, with his feet dripping in blood, and vows to rescue his daughter. Meanwhile, he's dumb; he goes to the police to report, and the policemen refuse to take him seriously. On his way to track the human traffickers, he meets Navin, who's also tracking the group to take them down while looking for his lost wife.
The two men are people I've seen in movies, but I saw them in a different dimension in this movie. Wang Wei acted by Xie Miao played the character so well, it appeared as if he's dumb naturally. His tireless fighting strength in this movie appears so good. Navin, on the other hand, was played by Joe Taslim; from the first scene, he didn't look like someone who could fight, but when he started, his smartness was top-notch. While some people may give credits to these two as the role artists, I can't ignore the scenes of the likes of Ho, Pak Lung and Tak. Oh my goodness! These guys stole the show in their different ways. Ho is the first guy Wang met who gave him a challenging battle. At one point, it appeared as if he was supernatural and didn't die. Tak on the hand is the Japan guy that has specialty in knife fight. His presence intimidated me a lot. Pak Lung? As calm and neat as he appears, he's the devil himself. All the actors delivered their roles as I saw them in the movie. I don't think this movie has a shortcoming as far as I'm concerned. The only thing that could have spoiled it is the lengthy fight scene, especially the last fight scene, but the scenes are very entertaining to me. The cinematography is good. I can't talk about the theme music in the background because I didn't pay attention to it.
