SINOPSIS/Synopsis.
En el siglo XXIII, el universo se ve amenazado por una fuerza maligna ancestral que destruye todo a su paso. La única manera de salvar a la Tierra radica en reunir cuatro piedras místicas que representan los elementos (tierra, aire, fuego y agua) junto con un misterioso "quinto elemento" de origen divino encarnado en Leeloo, una criatura perfecta. Korben Dallas, un exmilitar convertido en taxista en la caótica metrópolis de Nueva York, se ve envuelto accidentalmente en la misión cuando Leeloo cae literalmente en su vehículo. Juntos deberán proteger las piedras antes de que caigan en manos del extravagante villano Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg y las fuerzas oscuras.
In the 23rd century, the universe is threatened by an ancient evil force that destroys everything in its path. The only way to save Earth is to gather four mystical stones representing the elements (earth, air, fire, and water), along with a mysterious “fifth element” of divine origin embodied in Leeloo, a perfect creature. Korben Dallas, a former soldier turned taxi driver in the chaotic metropolis of New York, is accidentally drawn into the mission when Leeloo literally falls into his taxi. OPINIÒN PERSONAL/Personal Opinion.
Es una película extraordinariamente entretenida que no pasa de moda. Destaca por su audacia visual, desde el vestuario icónico diseñado por Jean-Paul Gaultier hasta las maquetas y efectos de iluminación que recrean la ciudad del futuro. Además, el contraste entre la rudeza clásica de Bruce Willis, la fragilidad expresiva de Milla Jovovich y el desfachatez cómica de Chris Tucker crea una química genial que mantiene al espectador enganchado de principio a fin.
It’s an extraordinarily entertaining movie that never goes out of style. It stands out for its visual boldness, from the iconic costumes designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier to the models and lighting effects that bring the city of the future to life. Furthermore, the contrast between Bruce Willis’s classic toughness, Milla Jovovich’s expressive vulnerability, and Chris Tucker’s comedic brazenness creates great chemistry that keeps the viewer hooked from start to finish.
CRITICA/Review.
A nivel narrativo, la trama sigue una estructura bastante tradicional del "viaje del héroe" y el fin del mundo, apoyándose en conceptos simplificados del bien contra el mal. Algunos giros resultan predecibles y la mezcla de comedia disparatada con la amenaza apocalíptica puede sentirse desconcertante para quienes buscan una ciencia ficción más seria o filosófica. Sin embargo, estos detalles quedan en segundo plano gracias a la absoluta seguridad con la que la película abraza su propio exceso y excentricidad.
Narratively, the plot follows a fairly traditional “hero's journey” and “end of the world” structure, relying on simplified concepts of good versus evil. Some plot twists are predictable, and the mix of zany comedy with an apocalyptic threat may feel jarring to those seeking more serious or philosophical science fiction.
