It was evening rush hour time on the hills. Being abtourist place, some of the roads were closed in evening for smooth publci movememnt. I went out of my hotel only to find a long queuen of vehicle lined up one after the another. I was quite baffled thinking it was a traffic, but unfortunately, it was not what I thought bit still I was impressed seeing the common civic sense even in this chaos. It is not wrong to say that people loving in small town have more patience and more cigic sense than many of us living in high urban areas.
Civic sense refers to the social ethics, responsible behavior, and consideration that individuals show toward their community and shared public spaces. Civic sense ensures that a society functions smoothly without people inconveniencing or harming one another. Rhis was what I was witnessing in the small hilly town. I heard of people being very humble and soft spoken, but this time I was lokking at the amount of civic sense they were showcasing in front of many vistors visoting the besituful city. People were queing up with their vehicles and there was no honking or any mess or even noone breaking the queue to get ahead of others. I am sure many of people staying in high metropolitan cities would.find this unusual. I have to be at many of the big cities, and have seen how people get desperate and losses tbeir cools whenever thy struck in traffic. I assume there is one or many road rage incident in many of the big cities. But here the scene is completelly different. There was no rush and people were quitely staying in their vehicle waiting to see the other vehicle to move before they put their accelerator on.
This was not only scene that surprises me, these hilly people have more awareness about cleaniliness. While strolling during the day, I noticed every shopkeeper put up their garbage in the garbage truck. Unlike in big cities where citizen who considered themselves more educated and advanced loiter things in park or roads. But here the scene is different. Even if you want to pee you can look put for publci convenience or ask for toilet in case of extreme emergency. It happen3d to me that I wanted pee, but already sensing the civic sense, i do not wanted to take risk. So i asked a cab driver about areas to pee, to which he directed me to a nearby petrol pump. When i reached their toilet was locked. There was not much people still I told the incharge that I wanted to pee, he without asking much handed me the toilet keys and asked me to flush after using. I amioed and said ok. I am sure such things are never going to happen in many urban cities where people can pee on any open spaces that seems be dirtier. I like the way tye petrol pump uncharge helped. He attitude is appreciable. Such behavioyr is worth noticinv and you cannot expect in big town. I am feeling myself to be in dofferrnt world. But apprecaiting each such encounter that led me to praise the indicidual alertness towards cleanliness.
All the civic sense and people alertness making me fall in love to the place. Small towns often display stronger civic sense and neighborly accountability because high social visibility makes residents deeply concerned about their personal reputation. Residents view local streets, parks, and public properties as an extension of their own neighborhood rather than anonymous government land. There is a close bonding between every single individuals. When public property is damaged or littered, it directly affects the small group of people who use it every day, creating a collective duty to protect it. Umlike in big cities, where the places were more crowded. When a city is crowded and fast paced, individuals assume someone else will clean up, fix, or care for the shared public space. There is no accountability and residents lesve everything to government bodies or others.
I wish to see such civic senses developing into every indian citizen. Whether they live in big cities or small towns. Developing civic sense social ethics, respect for rules, and consideration for others in public spaces among every individual is essential because it turns a collection of people into a safe, clean, and functioning community.
