Yesterday I was told that I got a black eye, my face has shrinked and I am getting weak. The people here suddenly seems noticing me getting too caring. But not the true case, they were trying to sympathies to me, as I was on fasting. I am observing Navratri fasting and abstaining myself from food. And people do start caring about you when they learn new things about you. I was shocked to hear the words, as I was feeling quite good. It was the 5th day, but in my opinion they were trying to distract my focus by saying poor words. But I beleive it all depends on how we want to proceed with our motto.
Fasting in India is a deep rooted part of culture, religion, and traditional wellness. In Sanskrit, fasting is called Upavasa - *Upa meaning "near" and vasa meaning "to stay". This simply translates to staying mentally close to the divine. Navratri fasting is practiced twice a year over 9 days, where people opt for few option. Either they rely on fruits and juices during the day or they feed special non cereal foods like buckwheat/kuttu, water chestnut flour/singhara, and rock salt / sendha namak. I have opted for the first option till my body able to succeed. I have seen people fasting but eating a lot of stuffs. There are many ways to proceed. Some people like to have some one time meals generally during the night. While some like to keep feeding non cereals diet throughout the day. I rememeber myfri3d used to carry various snacks of non cereals item and keep munching. Even some reputed restaurant in big cities comes up with fasting menu. And people were dying to crave on them. But my concern is does eating meals really counts to fasting?
Fasting: where we realize 80% of our thoughts are just about our next meal
When people fast they start thinking that they were not eating anything and they might get weaker. Even I have seen in my relatives home. Recently during recent Janamaahtami fasting, one of the person is craving a big plate of different fruits / dry fruits and milk. And they were trying to look meak by saying they were on fasting. I really surprised finding people doing fasting and trying to get attention from other. A one day abstaining from food wont make you weak. I guess but certain people do like to create a scene for themselves. In my personal opinion Fasting is all about mental game. The more you remain focus on you goals the more it attributes to success.
Fasting teaches us that we don't need to react to every urge.
Fasting is the game of mind and body. Resisting the urge to eat when your brain is used to constant snacking acts as a direct workout for impulse control and perseverance. Going without food teaches your mind that temporary discomfort (like a hunger wave) does not require an immediate, reactive fix. My fasting is time to spiritual things. But doing fasting, makes us pause and notice whether we are reaching for food out of physical hunger or emotional triggers like stress, boredom, or habit. I know people do have a special urge to eat food now then. As I am on 6 days today, i felt some urge in begining 1 or 2 days, but after that I adapted my mind about tye Navratri festival. Since then there is no urge. I door see there is a reason to keep yourself crave for more food unecessary. When you are doing fasting for spirituality purpose them one shpuld focus on the ultimate goals. Rather than keep distracting yourself by thinking that the body is getting weak.
Self-control is the highest form of self-love.
Fruits , water, milk on regular interval during the day is enough to carry on the body for few days. The important part is to remain hydrated. Our body is made up of water and any scarcity may cause some problems. So drinking enough water to keep you hydrate is waht our body requires. I have still few days left and wondering if I able to succeed or not. But listening to other words may pull down the moral. So I avoiding all those sympathy words. I think I am good till I manage to walk few kilometer everyday. Let's stay positive for next few days to come. And do remember society alwsys trybto bring our moral down eather helping them climb up the challenge.
In good faith - Peace!!
