Liberty Apple Harvest

Thumb

Today, I harvested my Liberty apples. This is the first harvest of any quantity I have had from my young orchard project.

Apple

I have been planting trees since we moved here in 2021. We arrived in Vermont on July 4, 2021. We found our current home quickly and planted the first apple tree on November 7, 2021.

Split

We now have planted 11 apple trees, 4 pear trees, 5 plum trees, 2 peach and 2 cherry trees. Plus 3 crabapple trees and 3 maple trees and some ornamental trees/shrubs. Plus added a garden. I am also working on berries with raspberries, blueberries and blackberries so far.

Sliced

We have enjoyed a few apples to sample before harvesting. We are probably a little late as some apples are a bit past prime.

Snack

Food photography is tough 😅 if I want perfect photos I probably need to use some additional lighting. Plus I noticed my knife work was not perfect 🙄

Colander

We picked 23 apples. Thats probably not even a peck. There are four peck in a bushel. We paid $10 for half a peck of mix and match you-pick-em apples last weekend. That is a probably the high end of you-pick-em prices around here. I have a ways to go to recover my costs lol

Bowl

This was a nice treat which is all I'm expecting. This is not a business 😆 We love where we live but if I was trying to grow apples for a living, we would need to be out in the Champlain Valley and out of the foothills (and forests).

  • Nice harvest! And you have a lot of fruit trees! Your apples look a whole lot nicer than mine did...
