There is a café called Jalan Cerita; I found out about it from my boss. He said the coffee there is the best in Medan. And of course, hearing that made me very curious and eager to try it.
I bought the coffee recommended by my boss. I should have visited the café in person, but since it was so crowded, I decided to order online instead.
The café was very crowded, and unfortunately, there was no indoor seating—only an outdoor area where a lot of people were smoking. Because of that, I decided not to go inside. Fortunately, they offered an option to order via an online app, so I placed my order that way instead.
There is a pretty good variety of options here, including several coffee choices and non-coffee drinks like tea, matcha, and chocolate. There are also various snack options available. They even sell bottled coffee in 500ml sizes.
Black Lemon
The first item I ordered was the Black Lemon; it's an Americano with lemon syrup.
This is the drink my boss recommends the most. It tastes delicious, offering a blend of bitter, sweet, and sour notes.
Kopi Susu Gula Aren
The second item I bought was Palm Sugar Milk Coffee; this is a must-order drink for me at any café or coffee shop I visit for the first time.
Bitter coffee, creamy milk, and sweet palm sugar—a delicious blend.
Both drinks are delicious, and they use high-quality ingredients. But for some reason, they just don't suit my taste. I’d describe the flavor as something for older men—an "old folks'" drink.
The coffee they use tastes like the kind of black coffee brewed for older people. It’s good, but it feels a bit strange to me. That said, the "Black Lemon" version is absolutely delicious; the flavor of that old-school style coffee pairs perfectly with the lemon. However, it doesn't work as well with the palm sugar coffee—while still tasty, there’s an odd flavor note to it. And that might be why this drink suits my boss so well—because he is old.
