Hello, beautiful flowers and kindred spirits!
Another week has come to a close, and that means sharing my journey through The Glow Up Project—a challenge designed to inspire more women to achieve real change. I hope your week was filled with bright days, mindful pauses, and intentions that truly resonate deep within your heart.
Delving into chapters 8, 9, and 10 has been a genuine adventure; certain sections prompted me to rethink my ideas—specifically regarding how we model ourselves after successful people, the nature of depression, and how we present ourselves to the world each day. We often think personal growth is about transforming the outside world, but these chapters guide us gently along a different path. So, once again, I’m sharing my notes and discoveries from the week, line by line. Grab a delicious drink and join me!
🎭 Chapter 8: How to Discover the Strategies of Others
In this chapter, Robbins explains that all our actions and responses are dictated by specific mental strategies; he reminds us that the body and mind form an inseparable system. These strategies function much like recipes or computer code. If you want to replicate someone’s success or understand why they act a certain way, you must learn to extract their strategy—not simply copy it.
To uncover a person’s strategy (whether for falling in love, making a purchase, or finding motivation), you need to pay attention to their non-verbal cues, eye movements, and the specific language they use. The author suggests asking targeted questions, such as: "What was the first thing that motivated you to change—something you saw, something you heard, or an internal feeling?"
🔎Chapter 9: The Fast Track to Excellence
Robbins delves into one of the most powerful pillars of NLP: the mind-body connection. The author asserts that it is impossible to experience an emotion without a supporting physical correlate; he reminds us that it is utterly impossible to experience an emotion without a physical counterpart to sustain it. If you are depressed, tired, or frustrated, you don’t need to spend hours trying to mentally convince yourself that you’re okay; simply changing your physiology radically is enough. Consciously altering your body posture, the speed and depth of your breathing, your facial expressions, or the tone of your voice immediately changes your brain chemistry. High achievers adopt postures of confidence and dynamism even before they achieve success, because mimicking the physiology of a high performer allows you to instantly access their same resourceful state of mind.
But this concept reaches a whole new level when we understand how we process our deepest memories and fears. This is where the chapter completely blew my mind, connecting directly to the magic of movies like Inside Out—where we see Riley changing, transforming, and reinterpreting her memories and emotions as she grows up—or to the heartwarming lessons of series like Another Self, which teach us that we aren't defined by the past, but rather by how we choose to view it.
Tony Robbins teaches us that our memories and fears aren't set in stone; they have what he calls "submodalities" (brightness, size, distance, volume, and color). If a past memory or a fear is holding you back, you don't have to erase it or carry its weight forever—you can edit it in your mind! Picture the scene with faded colors, shrink it down to the size of a postage stamp, or turn down the volume as if it were a car radio.
Becoming the true directors of our own minds—much like the emotions at the controls in Riley’s head—frees us from the burden of old images and reminds us that we have the power to rewrite our own stories.
🍎 Chapter 10: Energy: The Fuel for Excellence
Possessing the best mental strategies, an impeccable physiology, and a positive attitude—as discussed in previous chapters—is of no use if we lack the physical energy required to carry out our goals. In this chapter, Tony explains fundamental principles of health and nutrition aimed at maximizing our vitality, reminding us that the body is a sacred temple through which we can manifest our full potential.
One of the key pillars—and one that resonated deeply with me—is the power of breathing. Robbins emphasizes that proper breathing is not merely a mechanical act to keep us alive; it is the most important purification system in our entire body. We often breathe shallowly, which causes us to accumulate tension that clouds the mind and deprives our cells of the oxygen they desperately need. For this reason, he recommends incorporating deep-breathing techniques designed to efficiently oxygenate the blood and stimulate lymphatic circulation, thereby instantly renewing our internal energy.
Furthermore, he approaches nutrition from the perspective of biological alignment, arguing that 70% of our diet should consist of water-rich foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables. The premise is that since our bodies are composed primarily of water, consuming fresh, high-water-content foods facilitates the body’s internal processes and brings us into sync with our organic nature.
Finally, he explains the vital importance of food combining and moderation. He details how overloading the digestive system—by combining food groups incorrectly—leads to a massive drain on our metabolic energy.
This chapter sparked an important conversation in my own life; it reminded me that the challenge of "The Glow Up Project" is not just about how we present ourselves to the world on the outside, but also about what we put inside—and that includes the food we eat.
A little update on my life
Last week, I joined a group that goes for city runs at the end of the day, and I realized I need to fuel my body properly; otherwise, my health will suffer. Taking vitamins isn't enough, and neither is simply sleeping well or avoiding stress—what really matters is how I eat. That’s something I struggle with, though, because I don’t always have an appetite.
Understanding Robbins’s vision has made me look at my plate and my habits more consciously, but it has also allowed me to be realistic. He recommends avoiding yogurt, milk, and excessive water intake, which is a tough challenge for me. What I do know for sure is that the way we eat shows in our skin, our bodies, and our energy levels.
Grab a hot cup of tea, take five minutes for yourself, and let’s chat in the comments about your thoughts on this reflection—seen through my lens and experiences—regarding the book Unlimited Power. See you next time, God willing, once I’ve managed to read the next few chapters!
