As some of you may already know, my country of origin is Venezuela, and it's no secret to anyone that it has been going through a crisis for more than two decades. All Venezuelans do their best to cope with the crisis and survive, but from this arises a misconception, which is that those of us who manage to go live in another country immediately have our lives sorted out, and that is not the case.
There are things that, while not perfect in Venezuela, are taken for granted, such as owning your own home and not having to pay rent; And I'm not saying that everyone there owns their own home, but it's very common to share housing with your family or even with friends, and that's a huge expense when you're abroad.
The cost of food is also a determining factor in the difficulty, since for years we have adopted a culture of having fruit trees and vegetables in our homes, all in order to lighten the food burden we have. In contrast, outside, a banana, a potato, or anything as simple as that you can imagine, has a value that someone with a salary of $100 or less cannot afford. It means eating junk food from the street, which, besides having no nutritional value, is in most cases even harmful, loaded with saturated fat and prepared with poor hygiene.
It is also important to mention that, although the jobs are well paid, there is a latent hatred against people of our nationality, which makes it very difficult to get any kind of contract or even temporary work; Therefore, you might see a teacher selling empanadas on the street, a refrigeration engineer who is an expert in selling ice cream, and countless other examples. For my part, I haven't been able to find anything other than through the computer, including, obviously, HIVE and some other things that I've managed to figure out.
So, yes, we are better off outside, but it's not a better that can be considered as being well, and generally, if not in all cases, these are not things that are going to be shared with the family and friends who are inside, with those who left the country to have support for them, so my intention is to make it known that, even though we are no longer in Venezuela, it doesn't mean that a part of Venezuela didn't come on the journey with us and that we have to be careful in how we treat the people who for whatever reason may have left the country.
Since, in a way... we are prisoners within our own freedom...
