Exchange Food and Plants... XD

Yesterday afternoon, my mom and I went to my high school friend's house and to our landlady's workplace. The jackfruit fell from the tree, so it didn't ripen well. My mom decided to make jackfruit jam from it, so it wouldn't go to waste.
We decided to share some with my friend and our landlady. Aside from the jackfruit jam, we're giving one of the avocado seedlings to our landlady because she wasn't able to grow an avocado plant last time, even though she tried. And since we have four seedlings, we decided to give her one.

My mom and I walked to my friend's house first... then went to the elementary school a few blocks away from her house to meet our landlady. It so happened that that day was actually the birthday of her late father-in-law, so they cooked some food.

They're actually delicious! She's become a good cook! These are pancit bam-i and biko *(sweet sticky rice)*. Thanks, Shang! :)
We didn't stay long because they still had to go to the cemetery, and my mom and I had to meet up with our landlady. We said our goodbyes and walked to the elementary school.

Above are the avocado seedling and jackfruit jam we prepared for our landlady. We just went inside the school campus and went to the school garden. That was our second time entering the school, so we're quite familiar with the place already. We just chilled and sat in the garden while waiting for our landlady to come.

When she met us at the school garden, she was already bringing some tools and a container to harvest something. She gave us some water spinach and eggplant from the school garden. We also got some dried okra so we could plant the seeds at home, as well as some water spinach to plant and other types.
We stayed there and talked for a bit before going home. Instead of walking home, our landlady dropped us off at the shortcut, so we didn't have to walk for a long time. The sky was also gloomy that day, so it was a good chance to reach home earlier.
Instead of just sharing the jackfruit jam my mom made, we got some food and plants in exchange. I think this is quite typical in the countryside, and I like this kind of culture.

I'll end this post here. Thanks for checking and see you around! (^^,)/

Beautiful cat, it's nice to harvest our food

The school garden reminds me of my elementary school days when we used to plant and during harvest time, we could bring some of our harvest home. I remember planting mung beans in our school garden because they grew so quickly, and each seed produced so many more! 😍 You really came at the perfect time because may handaan hehe

Wow, youre so generous to give avocado seedlings to your landlady. I hope it will grow well and bear fruit in a coming years. 🌿

That's thoughtful of you and your mom that you gave something to them like the Jackfruit Jam and the seedlings for the Avocado and got lucky that there's a birthday and get to eat that biko (ang sarap) , and you get to receive yet another veggies like the water spinach and eggplant when going home.

It's like a barter that you give them and they give you in return. Well, that's life in a countryside because there were lots of veggies around the place compared living in the city.

I just found out that jackfruit can be made into jam. Have you ever written about how to make it? Maybe I could try making some if we happen to harvest jackfruit in the future.

It was perfect timing that they had a special occasion at their place. And you're fortunate to have food to bring home! Hehe.

I like jackfruit jam, too. It's really yummy!
