Happy Christmas was the first part of the title today...
You might be thinking I have gone off my trolley or aww ma heid as they say up here in Scotland...
But no there is method in madness!!
I woke up this morning to a message from a wonderful Filipina friend of mine saying Happy Christmas!
Yes 1st of September is the start of the Ber months and when they start to get into the Christmas spirit in The Philippines, so there you have it! Christmas is on its way..

The year is now 1983 and we are listening to a band that reinvented themselves from Joy Division after the death of Ian Curtis..

New Order
Following the tragic loss of Ian Curtis in 1980, Joy Division’s surviving members of Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Stephen Morris were joined by Gillian Gilbert and basically kept going but under a different name.
By 1983 the band were called New Order and had fully embraced New York electro, club culture, and cutting-edge synth sequencing.
1983 was the released their defining masterwork album Power, Corruption & Lies along with some standalone groundbreaking singles that bridged the gap between post-punk melancholy and high-energy electronic dance music, permanently transforming alternative music. That was what gemini said anyway.
For me I just fluffed loved their music, mind you I loved Joy Division too...
But one of these tunes coming up is in my top 50 hits of all time, probably higher, can you guess which one?
Tune 1 - New Order - True
We have to start with the song I was talking about .... No surprises there!
"How does it feel to treat me like you do? When you've laid your hands upon me and told me who you are..."
The defining electronic anthem and the best-selling 12-inch single in UK history. Driven by an Oberheim DMX drum machine, Kraftwerk choir samples, and Hooky’s high-register basslines, it remains completely unmatched on the dancefloor.
Talk about needing no fluffing introduction....
Tune 2 - New Order - Age of Consent
"Won't you please let me go these days? I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays..."
The opening track of Power, Corruption & Lies features one of the most energetic and melodic basslines that Peter Hook ever wrote. Blending driving acoustic-electric rhythm guitars with sequencer flourishes, it captures the youthful urgency and vulnerability of the early 80s indie-dance transition. Reminds me of so many nights in Uni on the dance floor!
This reminds of The Cure and The Killers not to mention a bit The Smiths and Echo & The Bunnymen. Awesome, and been listening to New Order all morning!
Tune 3 - New Order - Confusion
You just can't walk away, from love and all its heartache... You just can't keep on losing, you just can't keep confusing...
Recorded in New York with legendary producer Arthur Baker, Confusion threw New Order headfirst into early hip-hop, freestyle, and electro-funk.
Layered with squelching Roland TB-303 basslines and heavy syncopation, it solidified their reputation as innovators in both Manchester and the US club circuit. Sometimes Confusion is exactly what I felt when listening to this!
So there you have it, 3 songs released in 1983 from New Order with my 80s Soundtrack post as the inspiration!
