🇺🇸 ~ None of us was prepared for everything that has happened so far in 2026; if you had plans, they’ve surely changed, and if you took anything for granted, we know for sure that your perspective on every little or big thing in your life has changed, even if just a little bit; it’s impossible for the wave of events (in all their forms) not to have affected you.

For a little over 3 months now, I’ve been in a creative slump that was intensified by the tragic events of June 24. I don’t know how others are coping with this profound feeling—or sensation—of mental numbness that extends to the physical realm; I’m slowly processing it the way one processes grief. I haven’t felt the slightest urge to create, and instead I spend my time reading, preferably in silence when it’s available—which I consider a precious luxury given all the environmental pollution generated by those who can’t stand to be alone with themselves for even a minute.

✦ An artist friend of mine was in Caracas when the earthquake struck. The hotel had to be evacuated due to severe structural damage. He was able to return to the city unharmed, and a few days later, a work of art he had been working on was mailed to him (the one seen lying on the floor). He recounts how, along the way, some people were trapped in their rooms because the door frames had warped and would no longer open. He and other guests helped those people escape ✦

Change is part of everything—inevitable and unavoidable—but I regret it when change stems from loss or tragedy. I wish change could arise from good news, joy, and blessings, but it’s clear that there are changes that can only arise from a shock (just like birth itself—birth isn’t physically pleasant for either the mother or the baby; there is risk, pain, exhaustion—everything is shocking and extreme).

So today everything feels different—but how? I still can’t explain it. It’s something like the loss of a home, the aftermath of an accident that’s still unfolding, waking up to a different reality, feeling like you’re living in an idea rather than a nation. It also feels like being on a train that’s stopped but at the same time is going full speed.
How do you put into words the hybrid of uncertainty and certainty?
> > And in the midst of it all, I feel that hope—or the cure—lies in the simplest things. I no longer see a cup of coffee, a container of half-used pencils, the sound of the air conditioner when the power comes back on, or my neighbor’s sleepy greeting in the mornings when she goes out to feed the community cats in the same way. Everything is different, but I can’t explain how it’s different.

✦ Some Unexpected Things ✦

✦ Last month, my collection of souvenirs from China grew ✦

✦ The photos don't do it justice—it was getting dark, and I was in the middle of a small painting project. I'll share better photos of this beautiful mini screen soon ✦

Today I’m less stiff than on other days, so I started reading the Hive feed. Reading others’ posts inspired me to write and shake off the laziness in my hands. The truth is, I have a lot to say, but at the same time, I don’t want to say anything, because sometimes something seems wonderful but, in hindsight, it feels frivolous. It’s a bit of an unpleasant cycle because, once again, I think the real remedy lies in the simplest things.
This morning there was an earthquake—a 7.4 in the neighboring country (Colombia)—but it was felt all the way here. My bed shook enough to wake me up, and when I looked up at the ceiling, I saw my little chandelier swaying. Is this something we’ll be seeing more often from now on?
I hope everyone is doing as well as possible 💕 From here, I’ll do my best to break out of this slump because, beyond the unease, there are many things I want to do—and it’s not yet time to let them go.

✦ Today I reached 4,000 HP. It's not much, but I'm determined to see that number increase significantly this year ✦
