Sekiro is probably one of the best games I have ever played. This is one of the few games that I come back to every now and then. I have completed this game many many times and somehow I keep coming back to it again.
The first time I played Sekiro, it was because of a YouTube clip of this huge snake in the game. I though that was pretty cool. So i bought the game without knowing what I'm getting myself into. It is a souls game, but its little different from Dark Souls or Elden Ring. The combat and mechanics is the main thing that makes Sekiro so good. You cant just keep farming levels, get overpowered and make the game easy. You actually have to get good at the game. Like you have to keep dying and dying until you have the timing and sense of the enemy.
Parrying, timing, attacking at the right moment, these are really crucual in Sekiro. Once you start getting the hang of it, it becomes almost addictive. Breaking an enemies posture after a long fight and finally getting that deathblow is really satisfying.
I also really love the prosthetic arm mechanic. The different tools you get and the way you can use them against different enemies makes the combat even more interesting. Not every type of weapon will work against the enemy. Sometimes there are hints in the game which are better, other times you need to figure out yourself.
The bosses are also amazing as well. Some of the mini bosses can be just as frustrating as the main bosses, and there are so many fights that I still remember even after completing the game multiple times. Genichiro, Guardian Ape, Owl, Isshin. These fights can absolutely destroy you and make you want to smash your screen. But once you eventually beat them the dopamine is immense.
The game has a really good lore too. There are multiple endings and I have completed all of them. I like how the story isnt quite linear. There are things happening in the background, characters with their own stories. There are side quests and small details that make the game much more interesting when you actually pay attention.
Sekiro won Game of the Year for a reason. It is frustrating, but in a very good way. You die, get angry, give up, and then somehow you are still playing two hours later.
Right now, I am starting the game again, and I am already in NG4. I have played this game so many times and I still dont get bored of it.
