This is my entry to the Writing Prompt by @mariannewest for 4 October 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3246: just one more layer.
My entry
When she entered the kitchen, her assistant had already made the filling for her.
She thanked him, and told him to take a quick break.
She checked the ingredients, and it looked like the young and promising chef had managed to use the exact amounts of the right ingredients, as she had instructed him.
Now, it was her turn to make a display of her cooking skills, and she started by using a piece of premium-quality butter to grease the bottom of the baking tray.
Oh, I forgot to tell you that she had already turned the oven on to preheat it.
Then, she laid the first filo pastry sheet out on the baking tray, and put some filling on it.
She repeated the same process three times, and when her assistant returned from his break, she asked him if he thought the pie was fine or whether they had to add anything else.
He said that it looked alright, but she nodded her head, and said to him:
“Don’t you think it would be better with just one more layer?”.
