Wild Foraging

What a lovely afternoon picking some elderberries!

Around this time of year, there seems to be an abundance of berries everywhere, yet so often people just walk past them and leave them unnoticed.

These little berries will be turned into some beautiful homemade wine that should be ready in about six months. It sounds like a long time to wait, but honestly, time flies, and before I know it, I’ll have a brand-new supply of wine ready to enjoy. 🍷

Heavy and drooping, practically inviting me to pick them. I grabbed as many as I could reach but I left plenty more behind for the birds. 🐦

Now that harvesting is done and I’ve got plenty of work ahead of me! There’s always more to foraging than simply collecting the berries, but that’s all part of the fun.

And being out in the fresh air, surrounded by nature, is so peaceful and makes me slow down.

Do you forage elderberries? If so, what do you like to make with them? 🌿

Have never foraged for elderberries before to be honest but there are a lot around where we live. Loads and loads! Sadly we wouldn’t find the time to make use of them in any way.

My dad used to make wine out of them back in the 70s, I can remember the loft being full of demi-johns or whatever they were called? He’d often be grinning as he tasted his produce and there would be a wine tasting event in the autumn when our neighbours would come round.

    Those were the days!
