I am thinking about how a peace sign doesn’t always mean peace. Sometimes it just means this is what my hand did because I am taking a selfie, even if the rest of me is somewhere else entirely.
This piece is my SketchQuest entry BTW which is about sketching something that inspired you, something you saw online or in real life. And honestly, this came from scrolling. Those photos of people trying to look cool on social media. The pose is effortless. The expression says nothing. Or maybe it says too much about the grin or that could be the default pose?.
So I drew this moment instead. That inbetween version of cool when the gesture is confident but the face is not fully committed or not certain. She has this halter top on, layers of jewelry on, peace sign up, but the eyes are already thinking about something else and the grin is super obvious. She looks like she’s performing calm while carrying a whole separate mood. Teeth showing, eyes sharp, stance casual. That mix feels familiar. Like knowing the pose but not always feeling the vibe it’s supposed to project.
