I always wondered how this happens...
...because, how does a government actually gain support for a big war when the population is essentially against it?
After all, would you pick up a rifle and march towards a designated "enemy" and just shoot him or her? For most this is a resounding "no", thankfully so since common sense knows that killing a person is simply bad and wrong. But when a state looks to escalate and searches for conflict (perhaps where there is none), how do people in power get others to do their dirty work?
Clearly, this requires a lot of work on their behalf and this very quickly outlines the importance of "mind control" - at least in the sense to attempt to influence opinions and filter information that is consumed at large. It is no small effort to alter people's minds and thoughts in such a way that they are able to overcome their natural restrictive behaviors when it comes to killing other people. A whole machinery of propaganda, legislation and education needs to be ignited in order to (re)train and literally brain wash people's minds for the desired outcome.
NATO vs. RUSSIA
The last few years have shown to any attentive European how this machinery actually works in reality when we look at the "Russia-Ukraine" conflict. Of course this conflict is not limited to these two countries as such, but it rather stands for the revival of the cold war conflict. In the bigger picture, however, we can even see this as an bigger clash between the so called western countries and the BRICS alliance. This clearly reveals the new multipolar world order we nowadays find ourselves situated in.
But for now the "enemy" in Europe is Russia and as such, all things Russian are systematically being removed from the European space. This is of course necessary, as it's just not very fitting to still have Russian tourists interacting with Europeans and exchanging thoughts, ideas and customs or being able to read Russian news outlets as the population might then understand what the other side is trying to say. As such, it is only logical for politicians to remove the Russian influence from the public sphere.
This border and divide is necessary so that the image of the enemy can be constructed. Were there to be a meaningful exchange between the two sides, this house of cards would collapse immediately. But when people talk to each other and share their experiences of reality, it generally creates a space in which there is less conflict between participants. Not that everyone would simply agree with one another, but at least it makes it possible for the establishment of some sort of dialogue.
Recent developments
In just the last days, Germany has decided to make Russia responsible for the attempted bombing of an airport. Without any proof - it seems the outcome was already established before a trial could even take place.
As a result we have seen that Germany has terminated the lease for Berlin's Russian House. A place open for cultural and scientific exchange between the countries. We have also been informed that Germany is to close the Russian Consulate General in Bonn on September 18. But these are just two instances in a long line of developments which have all lead to the decapitation of information and exchange possibilities.

I have not even talked about the sharp rise in military spending, the more or less involuntary conscription taking place or the propaganda seen in major news outlets all over Europe (and Russia no doubt!) which talk about war and conflict, giving us even a date for when it will all go hot (we have around 2-3 more years apparently). When we see all of these recent developments lined up together I think a clear picture emerges: Europe/NATO and Russia are steam rolling ahead into the abyss of war. We are in an escalation spiral in which nobody apparently has the right conscience or guts to step on the breaks.
