David respondió a todos: Para dejar claro: yo no he dado nada.

A necessary introduction
This story is based on real events; only the names have been changed because I didn't ask everyone involved for permission to reveal it. However, if any protagonist of this story reads this post, they'll know who the authors are.
Before continuing, I'd like to invite @ericvancewalton, @palomap3, and @avdesin to take part in the initiative.
Without further ado, here's this quilombo from my workplace.
It all began with an act of apparent kindness. Elena, the meticulous office manager, found a thermos of hot coffee on her desk with a note that read: Have a great day. Surprised, she smiled. She assumed it was from her colleague and friend, David, with whom she shared a code of jokes and little gestures. That afternoon, she sent him a message: Thanks for the coffee—that was a lovely touch. David replied with a question mark, but Elena attributed that to his usual modesty.
The following week, the quilombo took shape. Elena found a box of artisanal chocolates in her seat. This time, she didn't ask. She ate them with pleasure and, when she saw David, she winked and said aloud: You're such a sweetheart, but you're going to spoil me. David, confused, frowned. I don't know what you're talking about, he replied curtly. Elena laughed, thinking he was joking. Sure, sure—the mysterious one.
The misunderstanding escalated when Elena, thrilled by the gifts, returned the gesture. She left a book by David's favorite author on his desk with a dedication: For my anonymous benefactor. The next day, David didn't greet her. He avoided her in the meeting room and answered in monosyllables. Elena, hurt, thought: Why is he acting distant when he started it?
The spark that lit the fuse was an email. Elena wrote a public thank-you to the team's supportive members, mentioning the gifts. David replied to all: Just to be clear: I haven't given anything. Elena, stop inventing favors and imaginary thanks. The office froze. Elena felt humiliated. Her face flushed with anger and shame.
The true origin of the mess appeared two days later. The receptionist, Marta, approached Elena. Excuse me, I saw the email. The gifts were from me. I wanted to thank you for covering that shift when I had to leave for my wedding anniversary, but I didn't dare tell you. Elena was left breathless. Marta's anonymous kindness had been misinterpreted as a gesture from David, and the stubbornness of both of them in not speaking clearly turned a simple coffee into a battleground.
David and Elena confronted each other in the hallway. You should have asked me, he said, still frowning. And you should have told me it wasn't you, she replied, lowering her voice. The quilombo hadn't been about the gifts, but about assumptions. They learned, the hard way, that a misunderstanding is not born from what is given, but from what is left unsaid. That day, they signed a truce: speak first, assume later. In the end, the coffee went cold.
From that quilombo, several décimas remained that we asked to share about the lessons of this misunderstanding. Here are two of them:
In the office there arose a fuss over courtesy, for sweet sympathy Marta left in silence. Elena believed it all and David, without a clue, grew tired of losing out when rumor closed in around them. The quilombo that stirred up for not wanting to understand each other.
A coffee wrongly attributed unleashed confusion, and amid the tension pride was the noise. But the unnoticed gesture found its voice in time, and the ill feeling fell when they spoke with truth. Calmness, complicitly, closed the strange event.
