Living in Nigeria has made me realize that we don't really get to choose the kind of weather that we want, we have our dry season and our rainy season and each one comes with its own kind of experience.. so If you ask me whether I prefer predictable weather or something that keeps changing, I think I prefer a little stability especially when the weather is not trying to finish me with heat.
I am currently in Abuja. Let me tell you the heat here can be something else. Sometimes you wake up in the morning, everywhere is already hot, you haven't even done anything but you are already sweating , just like how I was sweating when I woke up this morning, going outside under the afternoon sun is another story entirely, sometimes I just want to stay indoors and avoid the sun because the heat can make doing things feel like big hard work.
Nigeria generally has two seasons, the dry season and the rainy season, during the dry season the weather can be very hot and we sometimes experience Harmattan, when the air becomes dusty and the mornings can be cold, during the rainy season the weather is usually cooler although the rain can sometimes disturb ones plans or make moving around difficult.
If I have to choose my season I will go with the rainy season, there is something about waking up to weather hearing the sound of rain and not feeling like the sun is competing with you, I enjoy the feeling that comes after rainfall and I find it easier to relax when the weather is very cool.
If course I know the rainy season is not perfect, sometimes you want to go out and the rain starts falling heavily, you may have to wait before leaving the house, or deal with water on roads or worry about getting your clothes wet, tbh,i would rather deal with these things than spend the whole day battling extreme heat.
I also appreciate some level of predictability because it helps me plan my activities, if I know what kind of weather to expect, I can decide what to wear, when to go out and how to organize my day, I don't necessarily want the weather to remain the same throughout the year i like knowing what to expect too...
For me the best weather is when the day is bright but not too hot, with a breeze and just enough sunshine, I can go out do what I need to do and return home without feeling exhausted because of the heat.
At the end of the day I enjoy having different seasons but if I could choose one season to stay a little longer it would definitely be the cool rainy season, Abuja has heat to remind me that I should never take cool weather for granted.
So you just give me my breeze, a comfortable room and peaceful weather and I will be a very happy person for life...
