‎💰 My Simple Money-Saving Habit: Ajo Has Taught Me Financial Discipline

‎Hello Hives, ‎ ‎When it comes to saving money, I have realized that sometimes the problem is not that we don't want to save. The problem is that there are always so many things competing for the little money we have. ‎

Pixabay ‎ ‎Food, transportation, bills, family needs, emergencies and even small things we did not plan for can quickly finish whatever money we have. That is one reason Ajo has become one of the money-saving habits I find useful. ‎ ‎For those who may not know, Ajo is a traditional rotating savings system where a group of people contribute an agreed amount regularly. When it is your turn, you receive the total contribution from everyone in the group. The cycle continues until everyone has received their turn. ‎ ‎What I like about Ajo is the discipline that comes with it. ‎ ‎If I keep money in my pocket or somewhere easily accessible, there is always a temptation to spend it. But when I know I have an Ajo contribution to make, I have a responsibility to meet. It makes me think twice before spending money unnecessarily. ‎ ‎For example, if I know that I have to contribute ₦10,000 every week, I already consider that money unavailable for other things. It becomes part of my financial planning. ‎ ‎Of course, Ajo is not magic. You still need to have a source of income and the discipline to make your contributions. You also have to be careful about who you join an Ajo with because trust is very important. I would rather participate with people I know and trust than put my money into a group simply because the idea looks attractive. ‎ ‎The biggest lesson Ajo has taught me is that saving requires discipline more than motivation. ‎ ‎If I could give someone just one piece of advice about managing money, it would be this: ‎ ‎Don't wait until you have a lot of money before you start learning how to save. Learn to manage the little you have first. ‎ ‎You don't have to start with ₦100,000 or ₦500,000. Start with what you can comfortably afford and be consistent with it. ‎ ‎I am still learning about money myself. There are times when unexpected expenses can completely change your plans, but having a saving habit gives you something to fall back on. ‎ ‎For me, Ajo is not just about collecting money when it is my turn. It is about developing the habit of putting something aside instead of spending everything that comes into my hands. ‎ ‎Small savings may not change your life overnight, but consistent savings can give you breathing space when life gets tough. 💰 ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Thanks for Reading ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎
