@ura-soul - Witness update: New Server is Go. New Software is En Route and, uh, 'On Router'?!

Ebq7xTku-witness20banner20hive

Hi again everyone,

It has been a while since my last post, so let me start with the thing that matters most: I am still here, and my witness is still here with me. This is a short update on where it now runs and why.

My witness has moved house

My witness server has left Privex and now runs on a server I manage myself in Germany. Blocks are being served and the price feed is active again.

Why I moved

The price of HIVE is very low right now. My witness earns around 980 HIVE a month, which at today's price is roughly $50 - and it arrives as staked HP rather than spendable cash. Privex's managed Hive hosting was charging me exactly that in USD: $50 a month, so the witness was no longer paying for itself. Better deals exist!

The new server costs significantly less and is better hardware: dedicated CPU cores and NVMe storage rather than a shared machine.

What this means if you vote for me

Nothing changes about the witness itself. Same account, same Hive software, same job: signing blocks and publishing the HBD price feed, roughly 20 blocks a day.

If you have voted for me: thank you. Witness votes are what keep a witness in the block schedule and they matter more at times like these, not less. If you have not reviewed your witness votes in a while, the button below takes you straight to the voting page.

Where I have been

I have been busy working on various software/systems projects and on life challenges over the last 18 months, which is why it has been quiet here. I actually lose vision in one eye - it's still not totally healed, but better than it was. I have learned a lot!

Also, a major update to Ureka is on the way and I will write about that soon.

For now: the witness is online and it is staying that way.

Wishing you well, Ura Soul

Is there a current post on witness node specs?

It seems that the resources needed have become more accessible for home setups.

it's easy to host a witness at home these days , that way there is no reason for a witness to power down to pay the hosting bills .
