Hola, queridísima comunidad. Espero que todos se encuentren muy bien. En esta grata oportunidad, aunque algo tarde, quiero compartirles un poco sobre lo que fueron las ferias de San José 2026 aquí en mi ciudad, Maracay.
Here in Maracay, it has been a long-standing tradition to celebrate the San José Fair in honor of our patron saint, whose feast day is March 19th. Following this date, cultural activities take place, including solemn masses, interscholastic games, and traditional dances. Of course, music is also a key part of the festivities, with bands performing and shows. Literally every band in the state participates in a parade, which primarily takes place in downtown Maracay.
Aquí en Maracay, desde hace muchísimos años, es una tradición celebrar las ferias de San José en honor a nuestro patrón, ya que su día es el 19 de marzo. Posterior a esta fecha, se realizan actividades culturales donde se pueden apreciar misas solemnes, juegos intercolegiales y, en la parte cultural, las danzas. Por supuesto, la música no se queda atrás, con las bandas y espectáculos. Literalmente, todas las bandas del estado participan en un desfile, que mayormente se lleva a cabo en todo el centro de Maracay.
This year I had the opportunity to attend these incredible fairs as a spectator. They started at 9:10 in the morning, although I arrived at the site where the parade ended and the individual performances began at 2 in the afternoon. I was able to appreciate all the bands from the state, organized by municipality, from the oldest, which have no less than 50 years of history, as is the case of the Banda Show Inmaculada, to the most recent, which are between 1 and 5 years old.
Este año tuve la oportunidad de asistir como espectadora a estas increíbles ferias. Comenzaron a las 9:10 de la mañana, aunque yo llegué al sitio donde terminaba el desfile y empezaron las presentaciones individuales a las 2 de la tarde; Pude apreciar todas las bandas del estado por municipios, desde las más antiguas, que tienen nada más y nada menos que más de 50 años de trayectoria, como es el caso de la Banda Show Inmaculada, hasta las más recientes, que tienen de 1 a 5 años de fundación.
In addition to the bands, I also saw the participation of dance groups from across the state, as well as sports associations, such as volleyball and basketball teams, from both public and private schools, among many others. The highlight was the floats from each municipality, where they strived to capture the essence of their respective places and represent them in the best possible way.
Además de la presencia de las bandas, también pude observar la participación de asociaciones de danza de todo el estado, así como de asociaciones relacionadas con el deporte, como el voleibol y el baloncesto, tanto de colegios públicos como privados, entre muchas otras. Lo más destacado fueron las carrozas de cada municipio, donde se esforzaron por captar la esencia de estos lugares y representarlos de la mejor manera posible.
It was a truly beautiful experience; I had so much fun. I danced quite a bit, since it's impossible not to when you hear the drums of the bands. Although many people say these parades aren't like they used to be, I feel that each era is different and has its own charm. Simply preserving these beautiful traditions is quite important, as they bring the entire state together in one place to commemorate not only the patron saint but also the city's founding date. It's a time to forget the stress of daily life and work, and to connect as a community. It's a great plan that I recommend for friends, to spend quality time together, forgetting a little about routines and technology.
Fue una experiencia muy hermosa, de verdad, me divertí muchísimo; bailé bastante, ya que es imposible no hacerlo cuando escuchas los tambores de las bandas. A pesar de que mucha gente dice que estos desfiles no son como los de años atrás, yo siento que cada época es diferente y tiene su encanto. El simple hecho de no perder estas tradiciones tan bellas es bastante importante, ya que hacen que todo el estado se reúna en un solo lugar para conmemorar no solo al patrono, sino también la fecha de fundación de la ciudad. Es un momento para olvidar el estrés del día a día, de los trabajos, y poder convivir como sociedad. Es un buen plan que recomiendo para amistades, para pasar tiempo de calidad, olvidándose un poco de las rutinas y de la tecnología.
Of all the bands, this was one of my favorites and the one I liked the most in terms of sound. I think they're from a private school, but that doesn't take away from how well they were represented that day.
Entre todos las bandas está fue una de mis favoritas y la que más me gustó como sonó, creo que son de un colegio privado pero eso no quita lo bien representada que estaban ese día.
Each municipality had its own float, which represented something specific to the place or to Aragua. The float that surprised me the most was one themed around General Gómez. When he was president of Venezuela, he fell in love with Maracay and moved the government there to make it the capital. Many of the architectural works and spaces that have endured to this day are thanks to him; that's why when you talk about Maracay, you're talking about him.
Cada municipio tenía su propia carroza, la cual representaba algo en específico del lugar o de Aragua. La carroza que me dejó sorprendida fue una que tenía como tema al general Gómez, él cuando era presidente de Venezuela, se enamoro de Maracay y movió el gobierno a la cuidad para que funcionará como capital, muchas de la arquitectura, obras y espacios que hasta hoy perduran en el tiempo son gracias a él, es por ello, que al hablar de Maracay se habla de el.
The guy portraying Gomez did a great job 😅😅, he's a dead ringer, it was truly incredible. This year they changed things up a bit, alternating between a float and a marching band, it was a little more lively. There were way too many people gathered 😵💫😵💫😵💫 nobody misses these fairs.
El señor que representa a Gómez lo hace muy bien 😅😅, es idéntico, la verdad que fue increíble. Este año cambiaron un poco la dinámica, al alternar entre carroza y banda show, fue un poco más movido el asunto. Había demasiada gente reunida 😵💫😵💫😵💫 estás ferias no se las pierde nadie.
