Taurus Integrates Digital Asset Platforms with Swift’s Blockchain Ledger for Institutional Tokenized Payments

KEY FACTS: Taurus, a digital asset infrastructure provider, has integrated its tokenization and custody platforms with Swift’s blockchain-based ledger, enabling clients to connect their existing systems for payments using bank-issued tokenized deposits, with the first integrations expected within days and initial DLT transactions within weeks. This follows Swift’s July announcement that the ledger was ready for use by 17 banks across six continents piloting live tokenized-deposit transactions, after Standard Chartered and HSBC completed the first live cross-border transfer; the ledger acts as an orchestration layer for continuous cross-border payments on banks’ balance sheets, coordinating transfers before final settlement through existing mechanisms such as real-time gross settlement systems.

Taurus Integrates Digital Asset Platforms with Swift’s Blockchain Ledger for Institutional Tokenized Payments

Taurus, a digital asset infrastructure provider, has linked its tokenization and custody platforms to Swift’s blockchain-based ledger to enable clients to conduct payments using bank-issued tokenized deposits. The Swiss firm announced the integration on Wednesday, stating that institutional clients will begin connecting their existing digital asset systems to the ledger within days, with the first distributed ledger technology (DLT) transactions facilitated through Taurus platforms expected in the coming weeks.

Taurus, which specializes in institutional-grade digital asset solutions including tokenization and secure custody, said the connection allows its clients to interface directly with Swift’s ledger. This setup supports payments settled via tokenized deposits issued by banks, hence, bridging traditional finance infrastructure with blockchain-based systems. Institutions that link to the ledger can leverage their current digital asset setups rather than building new connectivity from scratch.

The development builds on Swift’s earlier milestone announced in July, when it declared its blockchain ledger ready for initial use. At that time, 17 banks spanning six continents had prepared to pilot live transactions involving tokenized deposits. Since then, Standard Chartered and HSBC have completed the ledger’s first live cross-border transaction. The two banks connected their separate tokenized deposit systems, demonstrating the network’s ability to handle real-value transfers across borders.

Swift’s ledger functions as an orchestration layer designed for continuous, round-the-clock cross-border payments. It uses tokenized deposits that remain on the balance sheets of participating banks. The system coordinates the movement of value between institutions and then relies on established settlement mechanisms—including real-time gross settlement (RTGS) systems, for final clearing. This hybrid approach aims to combine the speed and transparency of blockchain technology with the trust and regulatory frameworks of traditional banking.

The integration by Taurus arrives at a moment when major financial institutions are accelerating experiments with tokenized assets. Tokenized deposits represent claims on traditional bank money that exist as digital tokens on a ledger. Proponents argue they can streamline payments, reduce intermediaries, and enable near-instant settlement while remaining fully backed by regulated bank liabilities. Swift’s involvement lends institutional credibility to these efforts, given its longstanding role as the backbone of global interbank messaging.

Taurus expects the first wave of client connections to activate rapidly. Once live, these institutions will be able to initiate payments through the ledger using their existing Taurus-powered infrastructure. The company anticipates that the initial DLT transactions processed via its platforms will follow shortly thereafter, potentially within weeks of the announcement. This timeline suggests a relatively short path from technical integration to operational use cases.

It is widely agreed that successful early transactions, such as the Standard Chartered-HSBC transfer, can help validate the technical and operational readiness of the ledger. Broader adoption will depend on additional banks joining the pilots, regulatory clarity in key jurisdictions, and the development of standardized processes for tokenized deposits. Taurus’s move positions it as a key intermediary for digital asset firms seeking access to Swift’s network without needing to establish direct relationships with every participating bank.

This announcement shows growing convergence between specialized digital asset platforms and established financial messaging systems. It is believed that more institutions will explore on-chain representations of traditional money, hence, infrastructure providers like Taurus are working to ensure seamless connectivity.
