Back to the roots.
Was kann hive daraus lernen?
What is going on with reddit?
CyberSpace77 — A new modern, mixed content social media app
English
Reddit’s business model isn’t working, and what that means for Hive.
Reddit’s stock has lost 60% since the start of the year and is suffering more and more from AI-powered search. Reddit forums are seeing fewer and fewer visitors, and on top of that, there are issues with censorship on Reddit, which I’ve reported on countless times.
Censorship on Reddit and in subreddits has reached such extremes that I could no longer even post Bitcoin-related content on r/bitcoin. In almost all subreddits, you’ll get shadowbanned in no time.
What does this mean for Hive? We should stop copying Reddit and its censorship and instead move more toward a decentralized version of X/Twitter.
That is exactly the goal of the new Cyberspace app. On CyberSpace77, you’re no longer bloggers—you’re crypto and cyberpunks. Back to the roots.
And here’s another development that plays right into our hands: X is increasingly moving toward long-form content.
Microblogging is a thing of the past. We’re already in the era of mixed-length content.
The previous separation on Hive into “Snaps” and “Long-Form” hasn’t worked. For one thing, Snaps are often written in a boring way, aren’t really meaningful, and have hardly any users due to the half-hearted implementation of the previous frontends. The algorithm is also missing. This can be seen as both a disadvantage and a feature.
The idea behind the new Cyberspace app is therefore to combine these two formats and better integrate videos. Videos have always been a major challenge for decentralized platforms, but thanks to 3speak, we already have a brilliant solution.
One of the key focuses of the upcoming Cyberspace version will be the integration of video content. 3speak Shorts will also be supported. Simply upload the video to 3speak or copy the Shorts URL into the post. Voilà.
What do you think about Reddit’s development? Do you still use Reddit? What can Hive learn from this?
