Extreme bedrooming aka No More Camping?

So Autumn has apparently started and as it likes to do, it has brought along its friends: wind, rain and cooler weather.

Yesterday afternoon, @clareartista decided that it was about time to start sleeping in our (future) bedroom, instead of spending yet another night in a wind battered tent, even though our bedroom is far from ready.

our tent, parked underneath one of our walnut trees

As I had seen the weather forecast ( for what it's worth these days, as it mainly seems to focus on 'extremes' and causing confusion and panic ) and as I (try my best to) trust her intuition, I decided to go along with Clare's plan.

I had also seen the sky and it looked intense, to say the least...

What do you make of these clouds?

I was in two minds though.

There was loads of rain and a possible thunderstorm predicted and we weren't sure how waterproof our roof would be.

I prayed that our futon mattresses wouldn't end up in a water bed, over night and - as a back up plan - I had a towel and a big sheet of plastic ready, on the chair next to my side of the bed.

The thunder was extreme and beautiful. The rain was heavy. Both kept me awake - and alert - for a big portion of the night. Clare and I had a bunch of vivid dreams. So I must have gotten at least some deep sleep in.

The room was dark, aside from a dim ray shining through the tiny top window. Such a difference with sleeping in our tent!

Our kitchen and, above it, our current bedroom, with a tiny, open window (as seen from the courtyard below).

...One of our cats, Frida, also woke us up, several times by sneaking into our bedroom. Both the door below, of the former chicken coop, and our unfinished bedroom door were clearly too easy a hurdle for a burglar cat like her to navigate.

Oh and I almost forgot to mention that, after a couple of hours of (not) sleep(ing much), I laid my arm on Clare's back - above the sheets - and felt a drop of water and then a couple more.

Good timing!

I switched on the light and we covered the bed with the plastic sheet and laid a towel on top of it.

Afterwards, it luckily didn't seem to drip much but it was quite stressful, as there might be more leaks, and this added to what was already a night of interrupted sleep.

Add to this that the rain kept falling all night long and the thunder kept rolling for many hours too.

It is raining again now but the bed is covered and it isn't heavy rain. There also is no thunder.

We have so much more work to do on our house. Installing a stove with a water heater ( see @clareartista 's latest post ) is another serious priority but it's also my birthday tomorrow and some chill time is important and much needed too :^)

It's fair to say that there's never a dull day in the countryside, especially with two hectares of land and doing (double) home renovation on shoestring budget without the use of power tools.

Please send us your good vibes. It's what keeps us going ;^)

Looking very cosy over there. I can't wait for the friends of autumn myself. Moody skies, cooler days, and a good bit of rain!
