I thought I had never played this game before but I was wrong about that. I recalled immediately upon entry that I have actually played this because the opening sequence is so well done.
Normally I would moan like crazy about and intro cinematic / partial gameplay being almost 15 minutes long, but they did a very good job with this one. It would have been nice if when you were in the house that they indicated that you were actually supposed to go to the front door but they do not, and I ended up tooling around in my house wondering wtf I needed to do to progress the story.
It's funny to me that you are just supposed to notice this clown lingering on your doorstep at some point and then go answer although he didn't knock or ring the bell. I guess they were correct that eventually you will get tired of running around and will try to leave the house.
What happens after is one of the best opening sequences I have seen in any game when the sirens go off and you have to quickly rush to the nearby vault with your wife and son.
While I don't think you can actually do this wrong (maybe you can, it does auto-save) it is good at encouraging a sense of urgency and the thing about the nuke hitting right as you get to the vault is really nicely done.
Just in the nick of time!
They did a good job of combining the story with controls tutorial but if I was to say one good thing about having played Fallout 76 for a few hours it was that I didn't actually need to be told how to do most of the buttons because they were largely the same.
Remember how I complained about how they were always trying to sell you something in real life when playing 76? Well this happens in Fallout 4 as well but it is ONLY when you are at the start screen, not in the map or in the actual game at any point. Seriously Bethesda? Do you want to piss off the people that still enjoy this type of game? It seems like you do.
Now lets talk about something that immediately made me very happy as soon as I got done with the tutorial and entered the world again
You see that green thing both in my gameplay and on the compass? That is an indicator about where the hell you are currently heading towards. This was NOT included in an evident enough way in 76 and it drove me nuts. I don't think that it is a coincidence that this necessitate accessing the map frequently and that map in 76 is where Bethesda hits you with F**KING advertisements.
Even though Fallout 4 is a bit older, I can already tell that I am going to enjoy this experience a lot more. There is a ton to learn. I got absolutely waxed by an advanced unit that I should have just ran from and I think that was done on purpose.
Me and my dog friend are just roaming around doing some missions and for the most part, having a great time collecting crap to build up our settlement. I've only looked online for help one time and this was to figure out how you can get "gears" for building.
So if you have that question you get them by salvaging junk such as typewriters, certain watches, and other mechanical things. It seems so simple and obvious once you see it.
Today is day 2 of playing Fallout 4 and I think I have found my primary gaming home for a while with this one.
