I have listened to a lot of songs for entrainment. I have also listened to songs that made me pause at interval to ask myself some questions because they were more than just songs. Heal The World by Micheal Jackson is part of that category. The song was also part of his Dangerous album he dropped in 1991. And the song has enough message in it it a way that our world can become better if we truly care for one another.
Amongst all Michael's songs, I think this is the one with the most tender and appealing because he approached it with more than enough maturity to pass his message across, from his soft voice, to the voices of the children and in the video, the background, environment and cinematography really gave the song the required quality.
I have listened to this particular song over and over again and what I always enjoy most about it is how Michael directly talked to the listener by telling us to make the world a better place for everyone. It sounds to simple, but it has a lot of weight. He didn't present a complicated way out to suffering. He clearly talked about compassion, willingness to help others in pain and loving others because it all matters.
I particularly like this line, "for you and for me" because it takes away the distance between the person we are helping and the person receiving the help. He didn't say "them". He said "us" and thar alone sounds like a daily reminder that the present state of the world eventually touches all of us.
Michael was a very brilliant individual I must say because I do much love how he connects the idea of healing the the world with children. And when I mentioned "a better place for you and for me," the whole song stared to turn bigger than the problem of just a single generation. The little kids around the world are the symbol of hope for the future we are leaving behind. And that alone stirred up a question in my mind about the type of world we are creating for the kids who knew nothing about the problem. What reinforced the feeling was the innocence In the children's voices.
Listing further, "if we care enough for the living" is another line that stood out for me. Because looking at the word caring, it shows something that needs acting. Anyone can easily say they want peace and not war. But it can be extremely hard to do when no one is watching. And Michael seems to understand what the difference is. All the words he said were so simple and soft even though the song didn't give any map to fix humanity. But it did more than that by stirring up questions like, do we care enough to begin? And the messages this song has left is so powerful.
What I love about this song unlike other music is that the lyrics didn't address the particular year it was sang alone. Since 1991, a lot has happened in our world, yet there is still a lot of division, war, poverty, suffering and violence which makes everything Micheal said in Heal The World strangely current.
At some point, I said to myself that if this song becomes the world anthem, it won't be bad. But we must not just listen to the lyrics alone and make it become too idealistic because that alone can't give a solution to the world problems today. That doesn't mean the message pass in it is useless. Because the real thing eccense starts with the decisions we ale about how we decided to treat those around us.
This lovely song by Michael : “Heal the World” is eventually not just a song about changing the world. But I will say It is a song about refusing to become comfortable with a world that is still in need of healings.
