What Momma Wants - Part 1 of Us Quitting the RV Life

We are quitting the RV life. Yep, you read that correctly; we are moving out of the motorhome; giving up the RV life. We have bought a house; well, it's a manufactured/mobile home, but it is so much different than an RV. I am not sure I will ever be able to get use to our house not driving down the road. For those not familiar with a manufactured or mobile home, Wikipedia defines a mobile home as:

" ...a prefabricated structure, built in a factory on a permanently attached chassis before being transported to site (either by being towed or on a trailer). Used as permanent homes, or for holiday or temporary accommodation, they are often left permanently or semi-permanently in one place, but can be moved, and may be required to move from time to time for legal reasons." -linked to Wikipedia source.

My mother has decided that it is getting close to time for her to be near family who are willing to help her out. In order to do this, we tried to get Scott transferred to the city she lives right now. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to find anything open so we looked down in Texas. "Why Texas?" you ask; because that is where our farmer daughter is located.

We took a weekend and looked around the Tyler and Longview, Texas, area. East Texas was as pretty as we remembered, but it was in the high 90s and we were not uses to the high humidity. I was so happy to have the air conditioner in the car working. Eventually my mother confessed that she did not want to live in Texas with all of the political craziness. So, Scott turned down the position he applied for and we decided this was just an amazing trip to see a few more historical places.

While we were in Texas we visited a place called Kilgore. It is the place that was nicknamed the "Richest Acre in the World." I am planning to write a post in the future, so I will just plop a photo and let you be amazed at all the oil rigs!

Once we arrived back in Missouri to our poor, leaky motorhome we started talking to Mom about what it was she wanted to do when it was time to leave the place she lives now. Unfortunately, she will not be able to stay in the house she is renting because the market value of rentals is more than what she makes on Social Security and places she can afford are not in good areas. Mom told me she wanted to continue to have her independance, but she also felt she needed us close by.

We offered to find a place where she could live with us, but she refused because she feels she would not have independance. No matter how I much I tried to explain that she would not lose that, she refused. However, she fell in love with the idea of us doing a duplex or living in the same neighborhood. This means, however, she would have to come live in the same place as we are living. Her requirements on moving to wherever we are were not major.

Requirements:

• The city/town she will live in must be outside of a large city and not have major traffic.

• She will not live in a rural area; there must be a big city feel.

• There needs to be a pharmacy she uses, near-by grocery store she likes, and plenty of shopping places where she can "window" shop.

• A good church where she can become part of that community.

• The home she will live in is large enough she can have a sewing, guest room, and house her three hutches that holds her "pretties".
  

Fortunately, we have found the town for her and us.
