BEBIDA REFRESCANTE Y NATURAL DE JAMAICA, ANÍS ESTRELLADO Y LIMÓN.
Hello everyone. Today I’m sharing a very refreshing, natural drink—perfect for these hot days. It also offers many health benefits and can be enjoyed either hot or cold; however, given the current heat, I find it much better served cold. Here it is!
REFRESHING, NATURAL DRINK MADE WITH HIBISCUS, STAR ANISE, AND LEMON.
- 1 puñado de flores de Jamaica.
- 2 anís estrellados.
- 6 limones
- 1.5 litros de agua para su preparación.
- azúcar opcional al gusto.
The ingredients for this natural drink are easy to find and quite affordable; it is inexpensive to make, and you can adjust it to your own personal taste. Here are the ingredients I used for this recipe:
- 1 handful of dried hibiscus flowers (flor de Jamaica).
- 2 star anise.
- 6 limes (or lemons).
- 1.5 liters of water for preparation.
- Sugar (optional, to taste).
The first step is to boil half a liter of water with the anise, then add the hibiscus flowers, turn off the heat, and let it steep. Meanwhile, wash the lemons thoroughly and cut them in half.
The next step—once it has cooled down—is to pour the mixture into a large pitcher, using a strainer to remove the flowers and the star anise. I plan to make 2 liters in total, which is why I’m adding the half-liter of water (boiled with the star anise and hibiscus flowers) to this 4-liter pitcher. I could also turn it into a lemonade with hibiscus and star anise; the goal is for it to be natural and refreshing.
The third step—or the next part of the process—is to juice some lemons. I initially mentioned six, but I added two more, along with plenty of ice, to make this drink tasty, refreshing, and delicious. There are various ways to sweeten it—using refined sugar, stevia, or other options—but at home, we don’t add any sweeteners. The goal is to harness the specific benefits of the ingredients: the vitamin C from the lemons, the anti-inflammatory properties of the hibiscus flowers, and the anise, which helps with gas.
This is a delicious drink that I recommend having after meals, as it aids digestion, is natural, and offers excellent benefits to the body. Personally, I drink a large glass mid-morning and another after lunch; I also have one around 3:00 p.m.—when the sun is at its peak—as it helps replenish electrolytes, keeps me active and hydrated, boosts my mood, and prevents that heavy, sluggish feeling. I drink it three times a week, alternating with other options for variety; in any case, natural choices are always better than sodas or sugary drinks, which only make you sick and drain your energy.
