Hello everyone! I'm back with another Inktober drawing.
The prompt for Inktober Day 18 is 'Flightless'
So I was thinking of a few birds that can't fly since it is supposed to be a flightless bird. I chose the cutest one among them which are penguins. I think penguins are adorable and seem so cute when they waddle around. They may be birds but their wings have adapted for swimming instead of flying due to evolution over time.
I started the drawing with his head. I thought this gives a good idea for the proportions of his body.
Then I drew his little body too. This is only a part of it. Penguins are supposed to have some body fat for insulation and storage of energy during long periods of fasting.
I gave him a pair of wings. I was hoping that they weren't too big. I'll have to make adjustments of the colours later.
Then, I drew his feet which are webbed by the way as they swim in water. I'm not sure how many claws they're supposed to have so I think I messed that up. Nevermind, sometimes we do that during drawings and I have accepted that as a part of the process and tried to focus on enjoying the experience.
It was time to add some shading. Penguins are black and white mostly with some little pop of orange and yellow. So I added the black first by inking many cross hatches. I also added some shadow on his body. The part I struggled with the most, is the eye. It was so hard to keep it white with clarity. I had to use my white pen again and again over it. I coloured his beak orange as penguins have that and used the same pen to add a tiny pop of colour on his eye to make it separate from the rest of his head. Oops, big mistake so there I was again back with my white pen trying to reverse my mistake.
I somehow managed to fix the drawing. Since I already use some colour, I wanted to add some yellow too to complete the penguin look. So I used a yellow colour pencil and shaded a little along with some mustard shade that's orangy for shading. This is the final outcome.
That pretty much sums of my today's Inktober adventure. Thank you for dropping by and I hope that you have a wonderful day ahead.
